Masons P.O.V

I stare at the white wall.

What if-

My thoughts are interrupted by the door being swung open. I quickly look up shocked to see Ethan, Carter hesitantly walking behind him.

I watch as Ethans face contorts, emotional pain spreads all over his face as he stares at me, tears silently running down his face, leaving  wet streams of tears down his face.

His legs begin to violently shake as he slowly makes his way towards my hospital bed.

"Mason..." He whispers as tears leave tracks of their journey down Ethans soft, delicate face.

I can't bear seeing him like this, I look away, ashamed. "Stop doing this." He says breaking the silence.

"Ethan, I have to-"

"No! No you don't have to do this!" He yells, I finally look at him.

He's staring at the ground, his hands clenched into fists at his sides. "I have to-"

"Mason! An inch higher and that bullet would've killed you!" He says his voice faltering into a whisper. "You have to stop..." He says sobbing.

I don't respond, I sit their, helplessly staring at my soulmate. Unable to comprehend why he's acting this way.

But I can. I know exactly why he's like this.

Because of me. I am the one responsible for this.

Because I was being selfish. I wasn't thinking about how this would affect him. I was so worried and caught up in trying to stop Abby. I didn't think about him.

Abby, he doesn't know.

"Ethan," He looks up at me his eyes red and puffy from all the tears he has shed. "Abby is trying to ruin your career. Since she got fired, she wants to get revenge. She'll do anything to stop you from becoming successful. And I'm partly responsible for that." I coldly stare into his eyes.

"Who shot you?"

I look at him, my mouth forming the words I want to say. Instead of answering I look down.

"Who was it?" He asks louder this time.

"Nate." I mutter under my breath.

"What...?" His eyes widen in shock and Carter finally looks up.

"Nate?" Carter says in a raspy voice.

I look up at them and nod. "And as you know Abby and I dated while Ethan was gone." I shiver at the word 'date' but continue.

"She's already eight months into her pregnancy."

"What does that have to do with anything?" Ethan asks frustrated. I glance at Carter, noticing how he silently sobbed while Ethan and I talked.

"She hates me with every single inch of her being. And she'll do anything to make me suffer." I sigh. "She wants to hand her son over to me."

"What? But, you're not the father!" He yells standing up.

I look up at him and he looks right into my eyes.  His breathing becomes uneven.

"Right?"

"We're not sure." I say.

"But-"

"Sir." A high pitched voice interrupts him.

"You need to leave." I glance at the nurse.

"Can't you just give-"

"No, I'm sorry." The nurse kindly says.

Ethan looks down at me before glancing at Carter.

"Come on." He says and walks out of the room without saying bye.
