The next few days I tried to spend as much time as I could with Isaac. Peter found out the area the Alpha pack was staying at the time. We didn't know what building or anything. I didn't feel comfortable with Isaac going there. But someone had to scope the place out. I'd rather it be just Derek and Peter but Isaac wanted to help too. The three guys would leave and check out the place for few days then come back.
"You still awake?" I could hear Isaac's raspy voice through the phone. I rub my eyes as I look at my alarm clock. 3 am.
"Yeah, I'm here." I clear my throat.
"I can go if you need me too. You probably need some sleep."
"No, its ok. This is the only time we can talk." I sit up in my bed.
"I miss you." I can imagine the smile forming on his face.
"I miss you too. You know when you're coming back?" I asked.
"Give or take a few more days." He sighs.
"Good. Have you told Derek and Peter?" I yawned.
"Not yet. I was going to wait when I get back. You should get some sleep." Isaac says.
"Alright. You need to sleep too. Being that you are out there all day and night." I turn my lamp off and lay down.
"I'll try. Night Lexy." He chuckles.
"Night Isaac. Please be careful." I smiled.
"I will." He says. The phone line goes blank. I hang up the phone and plug it up to the charger.
Weeks had passed, Isaac didn't call. Everytime I called it would go to voicemail. He didn't come back. I was starting to get worried but Derek told me there is nothing to worry about. Peter says that everything is fine and he probably lost signal or his phone died. It wasn't like him to not call me. He promised. School was starting back up and it was our junior year. Grand was back in town for a few weeks. She has been teaching me how to fight. The second stage was now starting. She says I can only focus on a few objects at a time when I'm in control of my abilities. Or if I'm weak and injured it limits my abilities. I can fight or try to. And that's what she was going to teach me.
"Hello, my fellow nerds." I smiled hugging my two idiots. It was the first day of junior year and I was dreading it.
"Lexy! Its been so long." Stiles hugs me.
"We just saw each other yesterday." Scott rotates his finger at the three of us. We walk inside the school as Scott and Stiles talk among themselves.
"True. Anyway, you wanna ask Derek for help? Why, why?" Stiles turns to face Scott.
"He's got the triskele tattooed on his back. So there has to be a way to do it without healing, right?" Scott says.
"Does Scotty boy want a tattoo?" I raise an eyebrow.
"Yeah, its a treat for not talking to Allison over the summer." He smiles.
"Okay, yeah, but still, doesn't he have his hands a little full?" Stiles points at the missing Erica and Boyd's missing posters.
"Look, these are the applications for the career advisor. I need them sorted. And whatever happened to the library while I was gone, I want it cleared up. And what the hell is this?" The principal asked as he held up Gerard's sword.
"Go, go, go." Stiles grabs my hand as we speed walk away from them. We head to our first class which is surprisingly contains the three of us, Lydia and Allison. This class is going to be fun.
"Is someone," Allison stands in front of Scott. The only seat that was opened was in front of him. So much for giving each other space.
"No, no, no, no. No, it's all you, all yours. Uh, it's totally vacant." Scott rushes over his words as I chuckle to myself. Our phones start to go off as I realize it was a text from an unknown number.
"The offing was barred by a black bank of clouds and the tranquil waterway, leading to the uttermost ends of the earth flowed somber under, an overcast sky, seemed to lead into the heart of an immense darkness. This is the last line to the first book we are going to read. It is also the last text you will receive in this class. Phones off, everyone." A woman read the text messaged as she walked into class. She looks at us sternly.
She was a young woman probably just graduated college earning all of her degrees and gained a job here within a few months. Everyone does what they're told turning their phones off. Instead of turning my phone off I put it on silent and set it at the corner of my desk. I'm not risking a missed phone call or text from Isaac if he makes one. Within a few minutes of the lesson we talked about the book and were taking notes about it. I've read the book a thousand times. Stiles was messing with my hair. I could feel the tangles developing.
"Mr. McCall? Ms. Carson?" Ms. Blake calls on Scott and I. I look up from my notes as she wiggles her finger for us to follow her out of the classroom. Stiles gives us a wary look as I shrug my shoulders.
"Uh, I'm sure it's an emergency if your mother needs you to leave school. Alexis, since Ms. McCall is under emergency contact and you are staying with her, the school is letting her get you out but I'm gonna give you both a warning in the nicest possible way. I am well aware of your attendance record. I don't wanna see you all slip back into old habits." Ms. Blake says as her eyes dart from me to Scott.
"I won't. It's gonna be different this year." Scott smiles.
"Well, I can't help when emergencies are emergencies." I mumbled.
"Resolutions are only good if you stick with them, Scott." She looks at him sternly.
"I will. I promise it won't be ephemeral." Scott grabs my hand as we walk away from Ms. Blake.
"Seriously?" I look at him as we head out of the school.
"I'm actually trying this year. Hop on." Scott gets on his bike as I climb on the back.
"If we crash I'm killing you." I tell him as he starts the bike up. We drive or ride over to the hospital.
