*Chapter Fifteen*
(*‘-‘*) Annie's POV:
The building was huge. As expected from a high-class hospital. It has a wide garden where the patients and other people can just relax. A good way to avoid thinking about death in my opinion. Oh no, dad! I looked up and hurried inside. When I entered, the whole place was white. The walls were creamy though. I bet this building has already heard a thousand screams and witnessed a million deaths since the day it was finished. This hospital is one of the oldest places here in this city, you see. I went straight to the front desk. A young woman who was about in her twenties greeted me. She was wearing a white blouse and a gray skirt. She also applied some make up on, I could tell.
“Hello, little marshmallow. How may I help you?” She smiled at me. I didn’t know which one was more insulting; the fact that she called me ‘little’ or that she called me as if she was an old grandma talking to a baby. Well, either way, she’s still pretty sweet and nice… but too grandmotherly…
“Can you please tell me the way to Mr. Courice’s room?” I answered softly.
“If I may ask, what is your relationship with him? I can’t let any random people in so I hope you understand that, dumpling.” She gave me a kind smile. Now she’s getting all weird with the nicknames.
“My name is Anth-” I paused. Wait, let me rephrase that. Who knows what she’ll say if she finds out that I have a boyish name. “Annie Courice. I’m his daughter and I came to visit.”
“Aww. Aren’t you a cutie? Hold on, sugar plum.” She turned to her computer and began typing. ‘Sugar plum’? Seriously? How old is she really? 70?! After a while, she turned back at me, “East wing, darling. Fourth floor, room 83.”
I bowed my head at her. ‘Darling’ now seems more appropriate. “Thank you, ma’am.”
“No problem, honey pie, it’s my job to help.” She turned back to her computer and began encoding something. I twitched when she said ‘honey pie’ then walked away and went straight to the elevator area. All the doors were close so I decided to push all the buttons and waited for one to arrive. While waiting, my phone beeped. I fished it out from my pocket and opened the message. It’s from mom. I wonder what her message is.
Honey, come home once ur done, ok? Mommy is coming over der in a bit so don’t worry about daddy being all alone by himself 4 a wyl. KOKO~ Dat’s hugs and kisses. Is it? I’m not so sure. Or was it SOSO? Anyways, go home ASAP, ok?
I smiled at her text. Oh mom. I quickly send her a reply.
Got it and btw, it’s XOXO and not KOKO or SOSO. XD
Not long after, she replied a short ‘I see! Ok den. :V’ Something tells me that my mom isn’t good with smileys and text lingo yet. I heard a ‘ding’ from my right and saw an elevator door open. No one else was around but since I was in a hurry, I went inside quickly. When I was already in, the doors began closing.
“Hold it!” I heard a voice from outside. Someone wants to go inside here. I quickly pressed the open button and the doors started opening again. Whoa, close call.
A guy went inside. I didn’t look at him but boy, he sure looks so familiar. I pressed the fourth floor button. He was standing beside me. He then leaned to press his floor as well. When he did, I was able to look at his face. Oh mother of the sweetest lemons… Of all people… He turned at me and his eyes grew wide but then he suddenly relaxed and smirked at me.
