*Chapter Nineteen*
(*‘-‘*) Annie's POV:
“It must have fallen off when you fell back there.” Quest comfortingly suggested. She must have felt bad for me. Who wouldn’t? I mean, look at me.
I was rigid stiff. I couldn’t move. It was as if the world has stopped rotating. The world is going to end now. I know it. It will end in the next five seconds.
“Annie…”
Okay. Make that ten.
“Annie?”
Or perhaps, fifteen?
“Anthony Courice!”
I jerked my head to the one who was calling me. Thank goodness it was just Quest. I would have bitten that person’s head off for using my full name.
“What?” I asked dazedly. My life is coming to an end. I felt myself falling backwards but then Quest held me up with her hands on my arms.
“Geez, Annie. You lost your necklace but it’s not the end of the world.” Quest let me go but not before steadying me. “I know just how important that necklace is for you, believe me, but please don’t go all Chicken Little on me. The sky ain’t even falling.”
Quest puffed out. She doesn’t like it much when I get too over the top on simple matters. But wait… This isn’t a simple matter.
“It belonged to his grandmother.” I mumbled out, defending my claim. “Or was it his mother?”
I heard Quest groaned. She ruffled her hair in annoyance. “You don’t even know who owns it.”
“It was passed down from generation to generation so it could have belonged to both of them.” I defended again. Wow. Listen to me, I sound like a lovesick puppy. This is far worse than the last time that I did. I could still remember. It seemed like it was only yesterday. It was back when I ate something mom made. She added something ‘special’ to it as what she said.
Quest looked at me warmly. I suppose she can’t really stay mad at me for more than a minute.
“Fine, fine. But I think Raven will understand if you just tell him-”
“Tell me what?” A voice said from our side. Now this time, it was Quest and I who froze. For the love of sweet lemons, please let it not be…
“Vince!” Quest piped out excitedly. I don’t know why but I felt myself let out a sigh of relief.
“Yo, pretty lady. Mind telling me what’s going on?” Vincent winked at Quest with an additional coy smile. Oh no. He cannot, I repeat, cannot know what’s going on.
I eyed Quest immediately and gave her an expression telling ‘no’. She nodded at me and turned to Vincent.
“That Annie, here, wasn’t able to tell Raven about the umm homework.” Quest began. I gave myself a mental facepalm. Quest is such a bad liar. Even worse than me. How can that be? She always has been a good one since first grade. Oh yeah, of course. How can she lie in front of the one she loves? Figures.
