*Chapter Twenty Eight*

(*‘-‘*) Annie's POV:

My head was resting down on my study table. Right beside it was an innocent-looking teddy bear. It was a victim of my schemes. It was almost nine and I have been spending my time practicing how to kiss. And as embarrassing as it sounds, I was practicing on my teddy bear, the one that mom bought for me on my seventh birthday. I groaned out in frustration.

“I’ll never be able to pull this off.” I mumbled to myself. My phone suddenly vibrated and rang. I quickly lifted my head but then, it bumped the drawers above. I let out a muffled curse under my breath. Great, can this day get any worse?

I took the phone in my hands and look at the caller ID. My mind wasn’t sure on how to feel when I found out who it was. I clicked the answer button quickly after that,

“Good evening, Marz. How can I help you?” I answered.

“Chica! Buenas noches.” She replied happily. This didn’t sound like the usual Marzia I know but she’s she nonetheless. “Is Marzia a disturbio?”

“No, you’re not disturbing me, Marzia.” I smiled. Thank goodness I understand what she said. Perhaps watching reruns of Dora the Explorer isn’t a waste of time after all.

“Bueno. Marzia needs chica’s help.” She explained. Sweet lemons. This is the first time I heard Marzia asking for help. And to top it off, she’s asking me, Annie the uncool, for help.

“Umm… what can I do for you, Marzia?” I asked nervously. Whatever it is, I hope it doesn’t have to be so hard to understand.

“You see, Marzia has a de gala this Sunday for the grandioso opening of my nuevo restaurante.”

De gala? I asked in my mind. Did she mean gala? What’s ‘nuevo’? I understand ‘restaurante’ though.

“Chica? Still there?” Her voice echoed out from the receiver.

                “Yeah. I just… I didn’t catch what-”

“Give me the phone, Marz.” A male voice said from behind. Wait? Who was that? Marzia’s boyfriend? I heard Marzia arguing with the guy and finally, she scoffed. The phone was being fumbled from the other line, I could tell.

“Yo, Raven’s pick-me-up number seven.” His smooth voice went out from the receiver and I froze. What the-?

“Vincent?” I asked furiously. I clenched my fists to regain self-control. Why is he there with her? I’m not jealous. Just plain curious.

“Bingo, baby.” He replied, popping the ‘o’. Baby? Baby?! Who gave him the authority to call me that? “Hey listen, Marzia is inviting you to her grand opening gala this Sunday night. It’s for her new restaurant. Your boss, Raven and I will be there.”

New restaurant? Now I get it. This is the reason why she always leaves school early. She does that so she can do all this. And Sunday? It’s a good day for the last step. I should do the sealing during that time then. That’s a plan.

“Whatever. Tell her I’m coming.” I spat out.

“Whoa, what’s wrong, baby? Time of the month?” He playfully asked. I heard him let out a low whistle. He is so getting in my nerves.
