*Chapter Sixteen*
(*‘-‘*) Annie's POV:
There are those instants when teenage girls would die just to have a moment of seclusion with a guy. They’d make up fantasies about it. Perhaps have a long walk in the park with Johnny Depp or a lunch out with Adam Levine. But then, this instant is different. Never in my life have I ever prayed so hard just to make all of this a dream. As we were making our way together towards Vincent’s car, I heard someone calling out my name from behind.
“Annie sugar! Yoohoo!”
I think I know who it is. I turned around slowly and showed her a weak smile that she didn’t seem to notice.
“Hello, Ms. Mona.” She went closer to us and gave me a hug. It was the type of hug that an 80 year old grandmother would give to you. You know the one that is so tight and gives you a bit of a shake, lasting for about 10 seconds? Yep. That awkward, mushy type of hugs.
“Hello to you pumpkin.” Ms. Mona smiled at us. When she saw Vincent and I holding hands, her smile grew even wider. Turning to Vincent, she pinched his left cheek and spoke to him in some kind of baby accent, “Vinny dear, you’re right. You two are the sweetest couple.”
My eyes grew wide.
“Yeah, we are.” Vincent answered casually with a smile on his face.
My eyes grew wider.
“You must be such a lucky girl, Annie dear.” Ms. Mona continued, still speaking childishly.
I think my eyes are about to pop out.
“Yeah, she is.” Vincent replied as he turned at me. He showed me a half grin, half smirk.
Eyes? Eyes? Oh sweet lemons, where are my eyes? It popped out from my sockets.
“I think you’ve made a huge mistake, Ms. Mon-.” I began to explain but Vincent suddenly cut me off.
“Yeah, because she’s not the one lucky in our relationship.” He held my hand tighter as if telling me to keep my mouth shut. “I am.”
Oh sweet lemon no. He did not just say what I think he said. I felt myself tremble after he let the words out. And it wasn’t the kind of tremble that you would normally experience when you find your crush asking you out or something. It was the kind of tremble that you feel when you had just seen or heard something scary or disgusting along with the usual fear of peeing in your pants. Yep. That kind of tremble. He turned at me and squinted his eyes, signaling me to play along with him.
“Ahh… Yeah. That.” Making sure that Ms. Mona couldn’t see me, I punched Vincent on his back. Vincent stiffened. I think I made him mad.
“Aww, I see. Well then cinnamon sticks, I have to go home now. I had just finished my shift for tonight and now I have to watch over my little kitty pops.” Ms. Mona said as she waved goodbye. I had a bit of mix feelings of wanting her to stay and wanting her to leave. I really wasn’t sure on what to react so I just simply gave her a wave goodbye with my free hand. In my peripheral vision, I could see Vincent doing the same. Ms. Mona nodded her head, turned around and began walking to our left side, opposite of where we are supposed to go. When I was certain that she is already away from earshot, I immediately snarled at Vincent.
