It's an old world out there
The dust under my feet has been
Here before my great-great-great's took their first breath.
There's an infinity of stars and simply
Just a few billion hearts here on this blue dot
And I am simply a fraction of what has already been.
The same 26 letters in our alphabet
That I rearrange to try to write
Something that matters
In this small pocket of our universe.
But even if each of the beings on this planet
Read what I have written,
It'd still be a tiny bite of all the molecules
That we have been given.
It's an old world out there
And my fraction of it doesn't come to much
But maybe it's not the space you end up taking
But lives you lived and loved.
