hope is a fragile word
wrapped up in love and dreams
that makes us all breakable
and brings us to our knees.
and for those who dare to believe in good
who are lovely and are kind
are often first to get torn down
because hope is rare and bright.
and we are all so vulnerable
when we allow ourselves to wish
and my heart continues breaking
because I'm scared I'll never win.
but the thing about hope is that
you don't choose to feel that way
it rises up inside of you
despite the truths that push it away.
and hope is unreasonable
but I like it that way
It makes me scared but keeps me strong
when I'm battered by the waves.
because when you hold on so tightly to
the facts and numbers and charts
then dreams become percentages
and the earth isn't art.
so let go of the reality
that things won't go your way
even though hope is something beautiful
it also makes us all afraid.
