Los Angeles, CA.As I drive through the parking lot I dial Joey's number. I just left a meeting with my publishing team and I was more than satisfied. I already have my draft for my next poetry book done. Now I just have to think of the visual for the cover then the rest is in the hands of the publishing company. Next I'll be starting on my autobiography. All of this while having a 3 month old baby, which Joey is watching her for me.
When he finally answers I ask, "How's my baby?"
"Fine, quit calling. I got this."
When I hear her crying in the background I say, "I don't think you do. Why is my baby crying?"
"Cause she's a baby, duh. They do that you know."
"Not my baby. Jodie's a good baby."
"What the hell you talkin' about? She cries. I know what I'm doing. I've watched her by myself before."
"Not really. I always let you watch her if I know your Mom or Marcel's mom is going to be around."
"Wow. I'm her Godfather and you can't even trust her with me alone. Says a lot about what you think of me," he says sucking his teeth.
I laugh then say, "It does. You don't have any damn kids, so it's not like you have parenting experience."
"What you mean?! I'm almost ten years older than my brother, Kaine. I might as well be his 2nd Daddy. I know how to take care of babies."
