A year & a half later...This past year and a half has been a year full of changes. I put out another book called A Street Family about the lives of Miss Shellie and Miss Edna. It was honestly so interesting learning about their stories. I thought I had been through a lot, but I had nothing on them. They both came from immigrant parents, raised in Compton, both joined Piru Street Family, got pregnant as teens and got married at a young age. I had no idea Edna had her first daughter when she was 14 or that the birth father was shot and killed. I always thought she had the same father as Marcel. I shared the story of these two women because I wanted to show the woman's perspective on these streets. Because of that it became a best seller making that my second one.
Within that year I also had my daughter. She was a girl just like I wanted. My Leo baby born in the month of August blessing this earth with her sunshine. She is now 11 months old and her name is Stella Joëlle Vercher. Stella meaning 'star' as a tribute to my best friend, Star. We ended up giving her the nickname Lottie because her personality was just like Lil Lotty's. In a way our three children were our way of bringing back the people we lost including Joey's brother, Jody, Yams, Star and Logan. Not a day goes by that I don't miss my friends. I wished they were still here to see how far we've come and to see our kids, but it all happened for a reason.
I put Lottie down for a nap then make my way downstairs to go to my office, so I can get some work done. As soon as I open the door I see Jodie sitting on the floor looking through a cubby from the shelf. "What are you doing in here? You know you're not supposed to be in here," I say walking into the room.
She looks back at me with guilty written all over her face as she pauses what she is doing. "I was looking for a notebook, so I can draw. I finished all the paper in mine," she says using her forgive me voice.
