Set around season 6, after Sam gets his soul back to season 7 with Emmanuel!Castiel
So I heard you found somebody else// And at first I thought it was a lie// I took all my things that make sounds// The rest I can do without
Castiel knew that he should have paid more attention to you. He could feel the growing rift between you whenever he dropped down to visit. Your relationship had deteriorated to dust and it was you who eventually called it off.
It was too painful, however, for both of you to keep seeing each other on hunts with the Winchesters.
You made the decision to pack your things and leave. It wasn't like you ditched the Winchesters, though. The boys sat down with you one night after you expressed your feelings to them- Sam was soulless at the time and didn't give a rat's ass- but you promised to keep in contact and to be as safe as a hunter could be. They said their goodbyes and you were gone before the sun rose.
A year passed and you became a "lone wolf" of sorts. You took up relatively easy hunts as you no longer had anyone watching your back. Your nights were spent at crappy motels and working for a buck here and there.
Then you met him; Another hunter. Tall, handsome, and had a decent personality. He was skilled with every type of weapon. He was polite, trustworthy, and helped keep your spirits high.
His name was Evan.
After Garth put you on a hunt with him, you two bonded enough to become partners. You passed quickly from friends to lovers.
You were happy.
Castiel had come down to help Sam and Dean with a hunt. After all that time separated from you, his heart still ached. It was foolish of him to ask anything but, mistakenly, he asked, "How is Y/n?"
The boys quieted. You were true to your promise to them and kept in contact.
"She's good," Sam said slowly. Castiel had been around long enough to know that the Winchesters were hiding something from him.
He sighed. "Is she still hunting alone?"
"Cas-" Dean warned.
"Dean," the angel persisted.
"She's found someone else," the older Winchester said simply- though with much regret. "Another hunter. They're working together. They're- you know."
Castiel wanted to leave. He wanted to find you to see if it was true. He didn't believe the Winchesters. Nevertheless, he had a hunt to help them with.
Maybe after...
I don't want your body// But I hate to think about you with somebody else// Our love has gone cold// You're intertwining your soul with somebody else
The crisp leaves crunched under Castiel's feet as he found himself in a familiar forest. No- It was a park. The angel felt a breeze brush against his neck indicating the signs of winter.
He remembered you. His love for you.
He heard your laugh ring through the trees shedding their leaves in preparation for the dark months ahead. Castiel felt a pang in his heart. It was such a feeling that couldn't be described- it ached, constricted through his chest, and he felt... despair.
The angel glanced behind a tree to see you. You were wearing one of your favorite outfits; boots, jeans, a nice top, and a warm jacket. Your hands were holding that of another man's.
He was handsome, Castiel thought. He watched with sadness as you continued to laugh at a joke the man had made. You didn't laugh that much around Castiel.
