FLASHBACK
The angel Castiel had fallen for one of the most unexpected reasons. He had fallen because he fell in love with a human. Not any human. The Righteous Man: Dean Winchester.
He had rebelled for Dean, he had almost got killed for Dean, and now he had fallen for Dean.
Since his powers were being blocked by Heaven, Castiel was in need of a hideout. He tracked the Righteous Man back to Sioux Falls at his adoptive father's house. He readied himself for a flight over, already feeling his cheeks go rosy at the thought of seeing Dean again.
He landed and the papers on desks flew everywhere, alerting everyone to his presence.
"Hello, Dean," Castiel said.
"C-Cas," Dean stuttered, "what are you doing here?"
The angel sighed, "My brothers and sisters have forced me out of Heaven. My powers are being blocked. I believe I am in need of a place to stay. Does Bobby still have the warding?"
"Yeah," Sam said, who was sitting next to Dean. "Is there anything we can do?"
"Well-"
"-Wait, hold on," Dean snapped. "You're fallen?"
"Yes," Castiel shrugged, catching Dean's gaze. He started counting every freckle on cheeks and studied every detail in the man's eyes.
"How'd that happen?"
Castiel sighed, knowing this question would have come up anyways. He wanted to tell the truth. "I broke the law. I fell in love with a human. Once the angels found out, they cast me out."
Sam had a look that was mostly amazement and curiosity, along with sympathy. "You fell in love? With who?"
Castiel blushed and shook his head. Sam had a knowing look in his eyes and he turned to face his brother, who was oblivious. Wanting to avoid further conversation, the angel walked to the door and stepped out. He wandered through the run-down auto shop and studied each of the rusted cars.
"Cas!" Dean called. The angel turned and smiled.
"Yes, Dean?"
"Sam and I have a hunt. Since you're here, we could use your advice."
"Of course."
Together they started walking back to the house, then Castiel stopped. Though his powers were draining away, he could still read Dean's thoughts. They were guarded, but the angel could still pick up on the curiosity floating around the hunter's mind.
"Dean, do you want to know who I fell for?" Castiel asked, Dean stopped walking and turned to face Cas.
"It's not my place to be asking."
"Yet, you want to know. Your thoughts give you away. I'm willing to tell you."
"Alright," Dean sighed, putting his hands down at his sides. "How, exactly, did you fall? I want details. Who, what, when-- you get the point."
"There was a man I pulled out of Hell," Castiel started, "the Righteous Man. This man taught me free will, and I came to learn right and wrong for myself. So, I rebelled to help him. Over and over I helped this man. I was tortured for it and hunted for it. I even died for it many times. But, something always brought me back to him-- love. Love being a such a human emotion, I didn't realize it. Unfortunately, the other angels did. They saw my profound bond with humanity and they cast me out. They cut off most of my powers. I'm sure they're hunting me now-"
