The few hours that Anna slept in Jake's arms rejuvenated her to an extreme. She had felt like she slept for six. Anna's whole mood was the best she'd ever been in. She was healthy and a little warmer than usual. Although sore her body felt great. She smiled at the memories of the night with Jake.
As Anna watched Jake get settled into his truck, looking worse for wear, she hit the send button on the e-mail she had just written to Harmony. Anna was responding to a message that Harmony sent the night before asking Anna how things were going and that after two more shopping trips she'd be ready for the island. Anna had been with Jake so she hadn't looked at it until this morning.
Knowing it was much too early for Harmony to be up Anna decided to send her an e-mail instead of sending a text because it would take Harmony longer to realize she had a message.
"I'm exhausted, and I think Daddy is even more so. Way too much driving, but will head back home tomorrow. We got you gifts. Daddy found some things that he sent to the island... it is going to be so easy to decorate once we get there, I can't wait. I'll be able to talk to you soon, love you, Anna."
Anna felt she had bought more time. Sending the e-mail was easier than having to listen to Harmony's anger through constant texting beeps because Anna had not talked to her personally on the phone since she left for her trip. Harmony hated to be out of control in their relationship but was happy she was going shopping today to occupy her mind.
Anna hated lying but knew she had to or Harmony would go to her house to see who was really there. Anna couldn't afford for Harmony to see that her dad was alone. Anna knew Harmony would try giving her father a pill if there wasn't a risk of anyone else knowing.
She didn't want to worry about Harmony until they were at the island where she could keep an eye on her. Anna wouldn't be able to handle the situation between Harmony and her father so she had to keep Harmony away until she got home which she was hoping would be soon. She just wasn't ready to tell Harmony about Jake because Harmony thinks other women's men were challenges. She'd want him for herself, even if he wasn't her type. Both girls mastered manipulation by reading from psychological books and tried out on friends. Anna smiled at the memory. Most of Harmony's friends were insecure, mostly made that way by her. And sometimes Anna let Harmony take over her as well, but not with her magazine, that was fully in Anna's control. She had to make sure the island was going to be also.
Not only that, it would cause so many problems if Anna's dad thought she was traveling so far by herself. He would be pissed that she had been lying to him and would send Nate to come get her for sure. Anna wasn't trying to hide. She was just trying to buy time and time was expensive.
Anna followed Jake out of the parking garage....
She flowed a mile behind him until he stopped to grab food and such. Even though she had wrecked his body she was impressed with his stamina to stay awake and function. She knew he probably had a headache. She wasn't sure how Jake was going to react or what he remembered. She wanted to be safe and gently slide into a relationship. She didn't want to attack like a vulture but she couldn't help it because she loved having control and now a secret. Well a secret for now at least she placed a hand on her tummy.
Anna was in love with Jake. He was the one that was going to save her from loneliness, and would make everything OK. These feelings were what made what she did last night as a self-righteous act she knew, but she felt free. Anna felt ready for this island which had changed her life just a few days ago. She can't believe the things she's done just to get a man she just met to marry her. Anna laughed as her devotion was a testament of her love.
