After Anna's new male friend Aaron had two drinks provided by her, Anna got steady to her feet. One shot of alcohol was flowing through her system as well, so she was momentarily surprised when her equilibrium tipped her slightly off balance when she stumbled sideways. Anna knew she needed to keep perfect balance on her sharp blades in order not to fall or slip on the ice. But the alcohol was the liquid courage she needed to follow through with her destructive plan to win the man she was meant to spend her life with. She was only using Aaron because Jake wasn't expecting her to be with someone else in case he looked for her in the scattered few single skaters.
Aaron took the hand Anna offered with a big smile to match her own. They walked awkwardly in their skates until they found a thick post near the entrance of the rink where she waited until she spotted Jake. Anna didn't have to wait long for she caught sight of him across the ice. There were a lot of people occupying the slick white gloss of frosty cold glass which normally would have been an irritation but today was a benefit for it allowed her to hide among the crowd to get closer to Jake.
The brazen couple were skating fluidly together as if they had danced together since they could first walk. This angered Anna to a level of darkness deep in her gut as her heart didn't have any more room from his initial betrayal of lying. This feeling cancelled any doubt of following through with her plan. Jake and Brittany were coming fast around the rink so Anna pulled Aaron into her arms pretending she had tripped when she took a step. It was to cover her skills as she had to remind herself she told Aaron that she was a new skater.
After Jake and Brittany passed, she tugged Aaron onto the ice and started in a clumsy stumble before they righted themselves to flow with the rest of the skaters. They were just fifteen couples behind Jake. Anna was surprised at how fast Jake and Brittany were skating, because after a minute of trying to let Aaron know that he didn't have to hold her up, they were directly across the rink from her. Not wanting to get caught, Anna grabbed Aaron's hand and rushed faster to catch up to the couple without crossing the rink. If she hadn't chosen to look up when she did then she would have almost bumped into Jake and Brittany for they had slowed way down to sneak in a few moments to kiss without running into anyone. People were moving out of their way with smiles on their face minus the few that thought their business was interrupting the flow of traffic. Anna slowed down making Aaron slow down with her.
"Wow it looks like you are a natural. I think you even skate better than I do." Aaron said looking surprised.
"You are just a great steady hand. Maybe I am better with the alcohol in my system." Anna laughed then slipped as to convince him of her words. He laughed and skated easily with her.
Anna looked around and caught sight of Jake and Brittany again a quarter of the way from them on the giant rink. With Aaron, Anna followed easily as she began to figure out how she was going to take Brittany out without anyone being a witness.
A fast song played across the ice with an echo which increased the speed and heartrates on the rink. Anna skated and played with Aaron easily which gave him the impression she was having a blast. Really, she was truly paranoid of getting caught by Jake and was playing a peek-a-boo game with Arron's body. Anna wasn't sure if Brittany or any of her family would even know who she was. She didn't even see Brittany's parents or brother on the ice so she assumed Jake and Brittany were spending some equality time alone. Anna bit her lip stopping before she drew blood. Doing so would bely the fun in her expression.
Everyone was flying faster to keep up with the song and Anna knew it was now or never. She slowed down only to grab Aaron and pull him at a high speed behind her. He was pulling on her hand just to keep his balance but it didn't deter her because she knew she was strong enough to hold him up with speed. Just as Jake was coming around the corner with Brittany behind him, Anna set her targeted distance. With the balance and grace of a gazelle Anna moved around then stopped and swung a surprised Aaron in a wide circle only to let go. Anna's timing was perfect as he flew fast and hard into Jake knocking him onto his ass with nothing to grab onto as they slid far onto the ice knocking a few others off their feet in the process.
