The alarm sounded next to Colin's bed waking him from a cluster of dreams that he couldn't grab ahold of to remember. The phone next to his alarm was blinking. He checked the messages and there were two. One was from his daughter telling him she was at a hotel and would be leaving in the morning. The other was a message from Nate stating he needed to talk.
Colin first sent a message back to Anna telling her to send a text when she departed in the morning. Then he called Nate. It was late but Colin knew his son would be up. They shared information about Kyle's and Jose's visits earlier in the day. Colin started to feel pressure in his head, and he was getting dizzier by the minute. His stomach was nauseous, and Colin was worried he was going to have to run to the bathroom quickly. He missed what Nate had said.
"Dad, are you ok?" Nate said after Colin didn't respond.
"No Son, I'm feeling a bit sick. I might need to get off here quick. This stress is making things worse." Colin replied with a voice strained in a low quieter octave.
"Dad, I don't want you to worry. I've got it handled." Nate said then preceded to let Colin know what he had done.
"Well I hope it works son. Have you slept?" Colin asked.
"Me too. I've had a small nap when I got back this evening and woke when you called. So, I haven't answered my phone until now. It didn't take me too long. It is just the driving that is tiring me out, but I'm OK." Nate replied.
"Well, I have one more thing to ask of you. I'd hate to do it, but I need Anna here as soon as possible. She is leaving her hotel in the morning, but she is following Jake. I'm not sure she is going to be honest and come home." Colin said, feeling frustrated that he had to ask more of his son. However, he couldn't help feeling desperate.
"Dad, no problem. It will give me more of an alibi when everything goes down. I'll be able to show I was going towards Nevada instead of towards Oregon. I'll have receipts to prove it. All I have to say is I was retrieving my relative to guide towards her father. The police will be happy I helped." Nate replied easily.
"Ok son. I feel bad for Kayleen kind of." Colin replied. Even though he didn't like her, what she was going to face nobody should experience. Except Tessa, he reminded himself.
"Don't, she started this whole thing from the beginning. She's not even a very nice person." Nate reaffirmed.
"OK. Just be careful and get some rest after you see that Anna is truly coming home. I have a feeling she is leaving early. I just need her to see you, so she knows I am serious."
"Is she going to arrive home in her car?" Nate asked.
"That remains to be seen. I am hoping so. It will be much easier to track her then." Colin replied automatically shaking his head thinking it could never be that easy.
"I'm actually wide awake. I'll take a shower and go find her then let you know. Kayleen already headed up to her cabin. I've made an appearance here and will leave after I have one of the staff members help me out. I'll let that person know I am going to pick up Anna so if anyone comes for me, they will know I could be accounted for." Nate replied.
"Thank you, Son, I truly appreciate it. I love you." Colin said.
"I know you do Dad. I will help you in any way I can. I love you too. Get some sleep and please call an ambulance if you need help because you are alone." Nate said with concern in his voice.
"I will, I promise. Talk to you soon, bye." Colin said and they hung up.
Colin looked at his closet door and knew it was time to say goodbye forever to his anger, his grief, and his obsession.
