Finally regaining enough of his breath to speak, Kyle concentrated on not looking crazy by trying to appear normal. It was difficult considering his two encounters with Jolene's spirit twice within ten minutes.
"Nice to meet you Dr. Ryner. I need to talk to anyone that worked with Jolene Parker during her shift on Friday night before she left work."
"I can look up her scheduled shifts and see who else was on them. People here work different shifts all week, so I'll give you a list of who was on Friday night and who is here now that you can talk to immediately." Dr. Ryner said as she led him to the desk computer. Lucy got out of her way and went to attend to something else.
"Thank you, I appreciate it. The more people I can talk to sooner, the faster we can find her killer." Kyle said gently as if he were afraid the infants in their life support beds behind the thick security doors would hear him. He was afraid to affect their listening brains with negative words of murder.
"We all miss her. She put in more hours than required in the emergency room especially in the neonatal section here. Jolene loved babies and wanted to help them in their fight to live. She was so good with the kids. She acted like a nurturing mother with each one." Dr. Ryner remembered fondly.
"Awe yes, Tanya and Donald. They worked together often. It looks as if Tanya is just about to finish her shift and Donald is due to check in at any minute for his. I'll get Tanya for you. Sign this so I can legally release her things to you." Dr. Ryner said as she had him sign a few papers then gave him a piece of paper with names and numbers on them. She called for Lucy to retrieve Jolene's things that have already been gathered for Kyle.
"I hope you find who did this, Jolene was a huge asset and a beautiful soul." Dr. Ryner said sincerely.
"Were you aware she was pregnant?" Kyle asked simply.
"Yes, we all were. Jolene was only about four months along. Some of her coworkers were planning a shower for her around her eights month before she planned to go on maternity leave. Will her family get her stuff after you've gotten the information you need?" Dr. Ryner asked.
"Yes, we will do that if none of it is evidence in her disappearance." Kyle gently replied.
Dr. Ryner smiled and passed through the doors to find Tanya for Kyle to question.
A girl in her early twenties dressed in a cartoon uniform returned through the doors. It was obvious she had been crying by her red eyes and splotchy red swollen cheeks.
"Hello Tanya, I'm Detective Mason. I have a few questions for you if you don't mind."
Tanya shook his hand, nodded, but remained quiet.
"You worked with Jolene Friday night?" Kyle asked.
"Yes. Jolene was agitated because she had just caught her boyfriend cheating on her." Tanya said before blowing her nose into the Kleenex she was holding. Out of habit she reached over to the wall and squirted hand sanitizer from the dispenser then rubbed her hands vigorously together.
Kyle offered her to sit in the closest group of empty chairs. Nobody else was in the room to overhear the questioning except for Lucy which was attending to the phone calls lighting up her desk phone.
"Do you know Jolene's boyfriend's name by any chance?" Kyle asked writing down what Tanya said.
"Ryan Miller. She used to practice writing Jolene Miller so it would be beautiful when she signed the marriage certificate at their wedding. He lives with his grandmother but he stays at Jolene's house a few nights a week."
