After Colin watched Kyle drive out of his driveway, he was set in a panic mode. Thousands of questions ran into each other with barely a space for answers between them. The fear of going to jail was worse than being stranded in the middle of a spider and snake infested jungle. Colin didn't want cops around his house, especially the father of the girl he killed. Nobody would believe that Stacy's death was an accident, especially with his history with Tessa. God forbid anyone found out about Dana. Colin didn't need a detective putting the pieces together. Especially the detective whose daughter died in his house. Colin would surely be escorted to jail faster than a cheetah could run. Especially since he gave Stacy alcohol. Finding her naturally and away from his house was the only way his family was going to be safe from accusation.
Another call put into Nate, was immediately sent to his voicemail. Colin needed to let his son know what was going on. He wasn't going to let Nate go down for his bullshit. Nate helped him clean up, but Colin would lie through his teeth so that nothing happened to him.
The promise of peace on his island was more of a need than a desire now. Colin felt like he was going to be late for a train if he didn't hurry up. Not even a boat could get him there fast enough.
It freaked him out that Kyle had come to his house in search of his daughter. Was fate playing a hand? Colin had no choice but to get rid of Tessa now. He should have done it already, but he had slept late. However, it was a good thing that he hadn't yet, because Kyle would have seen the burnt marks and ashes. A dark shadow next to the tree amongst all the rest of the white of the snow would have had to be checked out. He would then most likely would have assumed the worse. Timing always was everything.
"Damnit Anna, you lying little bitch." Colin said out loud, instantly feeling guilty but the anger was overwhelming. The thing Colin hated the most, was lying, and Anna knew that. What the hell was she thinking? Colin wondered. That she was following a boy, made him angrier than a cheating wife. Did she not understand that she was going to be questioned about Friday night? Now she is chasing another boy. Damnit, she is like her mother, Colin refused to let her end up like Tessa!
The message to Tessa had to be clear and direct without scaring her off. They were way past trickery and onto parent vs. child roles. Colin didn't really care that Anna was going to run away because he knew Nate could find her anywhere. Colin sent a quick text message that was to the point to his daughter.
"I'm sending Nate."
It was only minutes before Anna responded.
"Daddy, I'm driving. DON'T SEND NATE. I'm on my way home."
Colin smiled as he imagined his daughter's face. He wrote back.
"I expect to see you by tomorrow morning no later."
"Yes, Daddy, I promise. I'll be there."
With a small laugh, Colin sent another text. Though he thought it was funny, he didn't think Anna would think so.
"I swear to God Anna if you are not here by the morning, I will personally come and find you myself. Then I will cut you out of my will and leave everything to Nate."
"Daddy, I'll be there." Anna wrote after several minutes. Colin looked on his map and saw her phone was indeed moving towards home.
Satisfied that Anna might really follow through with what she said, Colin didn't care either way. He was going to get Anna home no matter if she liked it or not. It was time to go early, if they were going to get away from the shitstorm developing.
Thinking of Nate, Colin knew once Nate was able to check his phone, he would call Colin as soon as possible. He felt bad his son was doing so much traveling because of him. The plans and excitement of moving was enough to take care of, but the cops snooping around was an added stress for them both. Having to add Anna to his schedule was most likely going to make his son sleep deprived. Colin wished he could give Nate some relief, but he could count on Nate making sure Anna made it home. After they left for the island Colin was sure everything would calm right down.
