When Jaida Met Kadeem

Part Thirty-one

Chapter Eighty-Nine;

I couldn't get my head around it. No Kadeem. It just didn't sound right, it didn't feel right. A small, weary smile stretched onto my lips as I watched Kadeem from a distance sitting on my living-room floor with my daughter and having a very animated conversation, I giggled as Janelle waved her hands about as she spoke, she had a little lisp which caused dribble to run down her chin as she spoke very fast, half of her words not making any sense, however you still caught the drift of what she was trying to say. Kadeem nodded with an expression of intense concentration spread across his face. I was going to miss that face I was going to miss his hugs, his scent and the random bites he would place on various parts of my body.

I caught him as he licked his lips and I was instantly brought back to the kiss we shared less than half an hour ago.

"Oi," Kadeem's voice brought me back to reality. I looked up to find him gazing at me with a quizzical expression.

"Did you just 'Oi' me?" I asked him while a grin stretched across his lips as he outstretched his arms.

"Come here man," he demanded. His smile...it was just so beautiful, I couldn't help but smile back as I shuffled towards him. Janelle had wandered off into her room with a handful of toys she collected from the living-room floor. Wherever this girl went, she always left a trail of her toys. I shook my head as I watched her scuttle off before returning my attention back to Kadeem who was watching me intently. Sometimes I hated it when he looked at me like that, it was as if he knew what I was thinking, I felt too exposed and vulnerable...his stare had the ability to make me weak. I sat on the floor beside him and rested my head on his shoulder. None of us said a word, but it was ok, I was happy to just close my eyes and breathe in his familiar scent it smelt like home.

"Your hair smells nice, you know." Kadeem's compliment broke the silence. I raised my head from his shoulder so I could look at him, he smiled and I returned it before I lay my head back on his shoulder. I closed my eyes as I felt his fingers play with my hair, the feeling was so incredibly soothing it wasn't long before I drifted off to sleep.

"Hey babe," was the first thing Brianna said when my eyes fluttered open and focused on her sitting on the edge of my bed. I yawned and stretched before sitting up on my bed, I suddenly felt self-conscious, "Were you watching me sleep?" I asked her curiously.

"Yes," Bri responded as she tucked her hair behind her ear. "You looked really peaceful."

I looked at her, "Those pregnancy hormones have got you acting funky, if you don't mind me saying," I smirked at her before shaking my head in disbelief as she started sobbing lightly.

"I'm pregnant," she sniffled.

"I know!" I exclaimed excitedly as I tumbled on top of her and hugged her tightly. She squealed loudly as I began laughing. "Why are you crying though, Bri?" I asked her in a soft voice as I used my fingers to wipe the stray tears on her cheek. She looked up at me with her big, grey eyes and shook her head slowly, "I don't know," she answered with a small shrug, "It's just..."

"Is she crying again?" Kadeem asked me as he entered my room followed by Jabari, I froze momentarily.

"Wait..." I began my eyes shifted from Bri to Jabari who winked at me when I looked at him. "When did you two get here?" I asked feeling heavily confused.
