When Jaida Met Kadeem
Part Thirty
"You're doing it again!" Bri accused, rolling her big grey eyes at me before dipping her hand into the bowl I had filled with potato chips. I sighed at her and shook my head in response to her statement.
I wasn't, I really wasn't.
"Yes you are Jaida La'Shanay Anderson," she said making me stop on my tracks.
"Hold on..." I began closing my eyes for a moment because for a few seconds I honestly didn't believe what had just come out of my best friend's mouth. "Brianna did you just give me Kadeem's last name?"
"You know you want it!" she shouted back her voice high-pitched and shrill, a tone it always adopted when she felt really strongly about something or was becoming extremely emotional. I could not move. I just continued to stare at her having nothing to say.
"Yoo," Jamal laughed as he re-entered my living-room from the toilet, his eyes instantly went on his girlfriend who was staring wildly into my eyes. "Why is Bri looking like she's about to cry, fam?"
"ASK YOUR FRIEND!" Bri literally screamed. Jamal and I were taken aback. No, literally...I took a couple of steps back almost hitting my television and Jamal pressed himself against the wall. Bri's eyes were glistening now and she looked away, sniffing furiously before taking another handful of potatoes chips. I stared at Brianna in amazement before glancing towards Jamal to see that he was sniggering quietly and shaking his head. "Jay...what did you do?" Jamal asked me a few moments later when he had composed himself.
Brianna kissed her teeth quietly. I glared at her briefly before my eyes swivelled back towards Jamal. "Okay..." I sighed before finally admitting, "I nearly kissed Jabari,"
Jamal's eyebrows rose in surprise before quickly furrowing. "Is that it?"
"Yeah," I responded, laughing at the way he said it.
"Nearly, he didn't make you fall in love or get you pregnant or anything like that?"
I glared at Jamal's face as he bared his teeth in a cheeky grin. "Jamz, are you trying to take the p*ss?"
"But Jaida you kiss everyone!" Jamal exclaimed laughing as he sat beside Brianna who was rubbing her temples gently with her index fingers. "Yeah," Brianna agreed, making me frown at her. "But she only does it when she's upset with Kadeem!"
"What are you talking about Bri?!" I shouted back.
"Okay," Bri stood upright and walked towards me, I took a couple of steps back, I noticed the beads of sweat speckled on her forehead and how the baby hairs that framed her face was slightly damp and curly rising off her face while the rest of her hair was messily packed in a low bun.
"Bri...are you hot?" I asked her feeling concerned, she looked unwell.
"Don't try and change the subject –"
"I wasn't –"
"So shut up!" she shouted once more.
"Bri, calm down," Jamal's voice added. But she sharply interrupted him as well.
"Jamal," Bri glared at her boyfriend for a moment before fixing her gaze on me once more. "Jaida I just wish you would stop this denial thing. What are you so afraid of?"
