When Janet came back downstairs she had this new-found energy and we decided to go out, I didn't have that much money on me so I had to take some out of my card, we went and got out nails done, did a little bit of shopping just a couple of new tops and shoes and that, then she took me to some girl called Maya's yard where we jammed in her front room with some of the mandem from her estate and she cainrowed my hair for me which I was grateful for because it was one less thing for me to do in the morning.
"She cainrowed that sh*t tight! It looks good though," Janet commented as we strolled back down her road coming back from Maya's holding our shopping bags and walking in slow motion Janet gently touched my hair and laughed. "Does it hurt?" she asked me.
"Nah, not really." I replied as I touched a plait hanging down my shoulder. "I haven't had my whole head cainrowed in ages." I told her, and then got happy as I ran my fingers through the plaits coming down my shoulders. "Ooh, my hair's actually grown after I got it trimmed." I grinned making her laugh and shake her head. By the time we were making our way back to Janet's yard it was getting kind of dark, the road was silent, I thought we were the only noise until her house was in our view and we clocked the house three doors before hers was alive with lights and there were a couple of people standing outside on the drive, there was loud male laughter. I looked over at Janet who was rolling her eyes. "Jan, who's the breh that lives in that house?" I nodded over at the house with all the people. "Tall...dark-skinned...?"
"Oh, Daniel," she wrinkled her nose and smiled at the same time. "What? Did he try move to you or suttin?"
"No," I laughed, "Nah, he was just really nice to me when I was having a mini-breakdown outside your house," I explained to her.
"I was about to say..." she laughed.
At this point we were strolling past Daniel's house and Janet sighed as she had to stop and greet some of the people.
"Whose your friend?" one breh asked looking me up and down while I screwed him. Janet ignored him when she saw the screw on my face and started saying hi a girl who had just walked out of the house as I stood there wondering what was the occasion to be having so many people walking in and out of the house, there wasn't any music playing or anything.
"So you're not going to give man your number nah?" the same boy try talk to me again leaning forward and resting his arms on the gate that separated me from him, he was giving me some devious-looking grin while I stared at him blankly.
"Are you asking me or expecting me to give it to you because either way you're not getting sh*t from me," I replied.
"Why not?" he persisted, biting down on his bottom lip, "Damn girl, you're a challenge,"
I was about to open my mouth to start cussing him when I saw that Daniel boy rest his hand on the boy's shoulder. "Leave her man, she said no, she doesn't look like she's playing hard-to-get, I think she's being serious." He told him, making me grin at the look on the boy's face. He pushed him and took his place leaning over the gate and looking down at me as he was quite tall and kind of nice as well I'm not even going to lie, I couldn't help but smile as he was looking down at me intently with his dark brown eyes, I felt like a little girl around her crush...not that I had a crush on him, I didn't even know him...but yeah.
"I apologise about my cousin," he started.
"It's cool...nothing unusual about a dumb boy pushing his luck by trying to move to a girl that's way out of his league," I smirked.
"Sounds like you think highly of yourself,"
"Nah babes, I'm speaking the truth,"
"What about me? Are you way out of my league?" he asked me narrowing his eyes.
