"Helena, what are you doing? Lady Kaede told you to clean the hut! She's going to be very cross with you if she sees you sitting around." Rin said having passed me with a basket full of herbs.

"I have completed my chores." I said.

"How?" She asked.

"Magic." I said simply.

"Oh yeah, I had forgot you where a witch." She said thoughtfully.

"Hmm. If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and talks like a duck. It's not a chicken, it's a duck. I used to rely on that logic at your age too." I said standing up. I shouldered my back pack then walked beside her.

"Well, how else can you tell if who you are seeing is really a human?" She asked.

"I can sense auras but you as a human just have to rely on your gut." I said.

"My gut?" She scrunched her nose up in confusion.

"Your instincts. Or you could walk the path of a holy warrior, errr priestess." I clarified.

"I don't think I want that." She said turning her gaze down the the road before her.

"And why would that be?" I asked.

"Lord Sesshomaru will protect me." She said with full conviction.

"Seek not the protection of others, for none will treasure your life more then you yourself. It's good you trust him with your life but you must also be ready to defend your own life." I said.

"It doesn't matter if I trained to defend myself. He's a lot stronger than me. If he can't defeat whatever is attacking me, I don't think anyone could." She said.

"That might be true but where is he now? Not here, he can't protect you twenty four seven. You knowing to defend yourself could buy him time to rescue you." I pointed out. She took a minute to seriously think about it.

"You're right! Rin will train as a priestess until the day Lord Sesshomaru comes for me!" She declared.

"Good, what are your chores for the day?" I asked.

"Rin must help Kaede in the fields! Then clean the hut, but you already did that. I help grind up herbs to make medicine and drop them off to those who need them. On Monday I also help with laundry." She listed off.

"Hmmm, doesn't sound too bad now that I'm here to help. What do you do after your chores?"

"Play with the other kids in the village or play in the forest. Inuyasha keeps the village safe so I don't have to worry as long as I stay close." She said.

"I had wondered why I could only sense demonic auras inside the village." I mused. We soon arrived back at the hut where Rin put away the herbs she was sent off with. Turns out she was also sent to see how I was fairing. I returned to the fields with her and informed Kaede of the completion of my chores.

Beyond the field of herbs I could see Inuyasha perched in a tree. I couldn't help but to chuckle. He really was a dog demon. A very moody, irrational dog demon. He had a good heart though. I began helping them pick the herb ready and pulled the weeds growing beside them. The sun beat down on us but there was a nice breeze.

Once we were done we went back to the hut and I used my powers to grind up the herbs. Kaede and Kagome seemed very happy with my ability to lighten their load. After that Kagome, Rin and I went to drop off the medicine to those who were sick or injured.

"Well, all finished for the day. Want to meet my friends Helena?" Kagome asked.

"Sure, I see no harm in it." I agreed. We walked to the other side of the village to their hut. Outside a woman tended to a garden with a baby in a sling on her back. Meanwhile a set of twins chased each other. Rin ran to them once we got closer and joined in on their game.
