I told you this chapter was going to be long. And this is really long. So...I warned YOU! XD Enjoy! And sorry for the short chapter previously, I am on a very busy schedule, but I am always going to put this book first! Thank you for reading so far!
"Hey," Mom whispers into my room. "Callie. Do you have everything ready for today?"
I roll over and stare at her. "Yes, Mom. Every year." I close my eyes and groan, trying to find a comfortable spot again.
"Okay, I'm gonna wake her up now. So you'd better have things ready." she says, leaving the room, and the door open.
"Mom!" I groan. "The door!" she doesn't come back or respond. So, I leap out of bed and creak down the stairs, into the living room. I take the phone, then head out onto the back patio. I dial Luke's number then wait for him to answer.
Luke: (drowsily) "Hello?"
Me: "Hey Luke. Do you have the food ready?"
Luke: "Yeah. I was just finishing the pancakes and cake."
Me: "Great, thanks Luke."
Luke: "When is she coming to the diner?"
Me: "Around 7:10 with me and Lane."
Luke: (sadly) "Oh. So your mom's not gonna be here?"
Me: "No. Just us."
Luke: (silence)
Me: (confusingly) "Is that a problem?"
Luke: (quickly) "No no. I just thought your mom would be there with you and Rory. That's all. It's a special day y'know."
Me: "Yeahh..I know."
Luke: "Okay, well, I'll see you girls later. At a reasonable time to get up in the morning."
Me: (rolls eyes) "See ya." (clicks the off button on the phone)
After that conversation, I'm about to take the phone back to the living room but I can see Mom slip into Rory's room. So, I just walk off the patio and sit on the grass, with the phone beside me. I take a deep breath of fresh air and gaze at the half moon in the night sky.
But then I hear something rustle in a few bushes in front of me. I stare at them with wide eyes, as I wait for a deer or rabbit to jump out. Deer aren't too unusual around here, especially after Rory's deer incident a week ago. She was not crazy. That deer came for her, and Mom's jeep. That was one bizarre-o day for Rory.
I clutch my legs and freeze. A man's figure comes out from the bushes. I can't tell who it is right away, but when they get closer to me and say, "Hey redhead," I know exactly who it is.
"Hey Ferrato." I smile at Asher as he sits down beside me. "What are you doing here? And so early in the morning. Do your parents know you're gone? No-wait..that was a stupid question. If they knew you were gone, I don't think they would've let you leave in the first--" he kisses me and I lose my train of thought, even though I was only rambling.
He just stares into my eyes, not answering any of my questions. "Okay, you didn't answer." I say as he plants a kiss on my cheek. "What are you doing here so early?" I ask again.
He turns his head and sighs. "I missed you."
I just roll my eyes. "It's only been two days."
He stares at my eyes again. "Feels like forever. I've gone crazy."
"You wouldn't have been so crazy if you had just came to school."
