Just a fun chapter:) Enjoy!
The warm bitter scent of coffee fills my nose as I wait impatiently staring out the window.
"Coffee." Luke says, placing a mug down in front of me.
I sigh with a smile. "Thanks." The word barely escapes my lips before my mouth is pressed onto the mug. "Mm. Perfect."
"You going to be drinking alone tonight?" He asks eyebrow raised in addition to a growing smirk.
"Rory should be dropping by anytime now." I say rolling my eyes, proceeding to drink my coffee.
"And your mom?"
I fight back a grin. I knew he was bound to ask about Mom. I decide to be straightforward, to see what reaction I can get out of him. "I dunno. She should be staying at her boyfriend's place or something."
Something flashes in his eyes but he manages to cross his arms and try to look not at all irritated. "She's still with him huh?"
"I'm assuming so."
"Huh." He has a blank look on his face.
"You good there?" I ask with a slight smirk.
Luke forces a smile, looking past me. "Look who decided to show up."
I turn my head around. "Hey Rory." Luke pats her on the shoulder and says something incoherent to me, then makes his way back to the counter.
"Hii." She replies sounding exasperated. She plops down in the seat next to me.
I eye her. "Rough day?"
"Paris." She states.
"Ah, super rough day then." I push my mug towards her. "I don't want to fuel you anymore than you already are, but coffee tends to make things better."
She smiles at me gratefully. "Thanks Callie, I really need it." She takes a sip. "Wow. Strong."
"You're not the only one who had a rough day."
"Oh. What happened?"
I want to talk about it, just to get it off my chest but at the same time I know how judgy Rory can be sometimes. "Long story." I simply say.
"It helps to just talk to someone about it y'know?"
"You should take your own advice." I comment.
Her eyes dart around a bit. "About what?"
"You still haven't told Mom about what happened between you and Dean." I point out.
Rory sighs and looks down. "It's not really something I want to talk about all the time. It takes forever to wean Mom off of a topic, you know that. Especially if she knows the topic is off limits."
I nod, very true. "Fine. But you're going to have to tell her eventually."
"I will."
Luke comes back with another cup of coffee. "Figured you'd want your own." He places it on the table.
"Definitely." I wrap my fingers around the hot mug and breathe in the bitter scent of the coffee.
Luke nods, standing there for a moment looking like he wants to say something. Finally he turns to Rory. "So, Rory, you still feel okay with Lorelai and your teacher dating?"
I resist the urge to roll my eyes by focusing my attention on the coffee in my hands.
"Uh, I guess yeah."
