Happy...Saturday? XD Enjoy the song.
"I'm super sorry for, y'know, crying and everything." I say, embarrassed. I stand crossing my arms in front of the door.
"Ah!" he waves a hand at me. "Don't worry about it. I've dealt with a lot of crying girls in my lifetime." he says chuckling.
I smile. "Thanks. Will you tell Mom I came?"
"Yes," he nods. "I'll tell her you dropped by."
"Thank you." I say, opening the door. "And, I'm sorry."
"For what?"
"For not trying to find you sooner." I reply, with my back to him.
"I'm sorry." he disagrees. "For not fighting your mom on this. For not fighting for you."
I turn and give him a hug. "It's okay." I whisper.
"Same here." I can tell he's smiling.
When I pull away, we say our final goodbyes, then I return to Grandma and Grandpa's house.
"Callie?" Grandma calls when I step into the house. "Is that you?"
"Yes, Grandma! It's me!" I holler.
She hurries down the stairs. "Well, where were you? You almost missed dinner." she stops in front of me. "What happened? You look like you've been crying."
I smile, then nod once. "Yeah. I went home."
"You went home?" she repeats, shocked or angrily, I can't tell which.
"To see Dad."
She stares at me. "You went to see your father? At your house? Why was he at your house?" she questions.
"I'll tell you all at dinner." I say, pushing any further questions to the side. "Right now, I just need to shower and relax. Maybe get started on my homework." I head for the stairs.
"Don't forget about this weekend." Grandma calls out.
I stop, but keep my back faced to her. "This weekend?"
"Your day with Asher." she reminds me.
Oh yeah! Asher. I almost completely forgot. "Thanks, Grandma. I know. I'll see you at dinner."
When I enter my room, Rory pops up from the bed. "Callie?! Where were you? I was--" she continues rambling on with the same questions Grandma had.
I don't bother stopping her. Instead, I drop my bag and get my towel, then go into the bathroom. I can still hear her knocking on the door, asking questions. I ignore her, thinking about my exciting Saturday with Asher.
* * * The Next Day (Friday) * * *
"Are you sure you're ready to talk to her again?" Grandma asks me, for the one hundredth time. "You can always wait until after this weekend." she suggests, only saying it as though it isn't really a suggestion. But more of a statement.
I turn my head to her, taking a small breath. "Yes, Grandma. I'm sure. I need to do this. It's been too long."
"Not long enough." I hear her mutter. I just ignore that comment, it wasn't meant for my ears anyway.
"I'll be back a few hours after 4." I tell her, as I slip outside.
"You call me when you get there." she says, pointing a finger at me.
"It's just Mom." I roll my eyes.
Her face is serious, tense. "I know. That's why." she sighs. "Oh, Callie. Why don't you just wait until this weekend. You won't have to rush then, and--"
