"What?" Asher gapes, keeping hold of my wrist.
"Nothing.." I mumble, completely embarrassed. I pull away from him to open the door to my French classroom.
"Callie, wait.." he says.
I ignore him and I step inside, where most of my class is already seated and my teacher is standing in front of the chalkboard. "Sorry.." I mutter.
"That's okay, Callie. But please try to be on time, next time I won't be as forgiving." the teacher tells me, as she continues writing on the board.
I nod, shutting the door without glancing at Asher. I walk across the room, taking a seat at the back, near a window. About 7 minutes go by, where I try to pay attention to the lesson but end up looking at Asher, who is still standing outside the door.
Finally the lesson's over and we are starting to do our work. Asher opens the door and walks in, heading to my spot.
"Young man? Are you in this class?" my teacher questions him, glaring at him from her glasses.
"Asher!" I hiss. "What are you doing?"
He grabs my hand, which pulls me up from my seat. "Ma'am, I need a minute outside with Callie." he informs my teacher.
"Fine." she agrees.
He leads me out of the classroom, closing the door behind us.
"Asher!" I exclaim. "Why did you do that?"
"Because you didn't let me answer." he returns.
"I figured you didn't want to say it back..." I mumble.
He holds my face in his hands, forcing me to look at him. "Callie,"
I close my eyes. "I don't want you to feel obligated to say it back.."
"Callie," he says again.
I open my eyes. "What, Asher?" I say completely irritated.
"I." he pauses. "Love." he stops again. "You."
I stop breathing for a second, unable to comprehend what he just said. I feel light-headed and a little dizzy. "You..love..me?"
He smiles, nodding slowly. "I do. I love you, Callie."
I blush and lean in to kiss him. He kisses me back, then reaches for my neck. I pull him closer, taking in his familiar cologne. But I remember that my class is inside, probably enjoying the show. So, I grab him and pull him to the side of the door, where the class can't see us.
"Why did you do that?" he grins. "Afraid of having an audience?" he teases, winking at me.
I wave a hand at him. "No way. I love having an audience, just not now."
He brings me close to him again. "I've been waiting to say...that for so long." he tells me when we pause for a couple seconds.
"Me too." I tell him, beaming.
"Do you want to get together after school?" he asks me, kissing along my neck.
I giggle. "Um, I dunno. My Grandma will be expecting me. What about this weekend? On our anniversary?"
He comes back up to gaze into my eyes. "Mmm...sure. I guess I can wait that long.." he sighs with a smile on his face.
I nudge him. "You're such a dork!" I squeal, embracing him. "But I love you anyways." I whisper.
