Fighting for nothing

Sam ripped me to the one place I wanted to be, Ellie’s room. We found her lying there, crying because tonight will be her last night being Ellie and the last night to choose who will die. I decided to surprise and lift her mood up.

“Ellie, why are you crying?” I started

“John, what’re you doing here?” She asked standing up and wiping the tears from her eyes

“I needed some tutoring” I tried to act oblivious

“It’s not a good time, can you please come back later” She said walking towards the door and opening it

“I can’t”

“Why not?”

Because the girl I love may not be here later

Tears welled up in her eyes but she tried to control herself

“What are you talking about?”

“I got your letter” I said showing her the letter

John!

She ran up to me and hugged me. She looked at me and smiled trying to see if I was really here.

I’m so sorry John!

I know

I got you a present

I gave her a small box. I remember putting this in my drawer the night she altered my memory.

“What is this?” She asked

“It’s my mom’s family ring”

“What?” She looked at the silver ring.

“She was supposed to give it to her first born and past it to the next generation” I said “I’m giving it to you”

“Will you put it on?”

“Sure”

I put the ring on her finger and it fit perfectly.

“Why are you giving this to me?” She asked

“So that we can pass it to the next generation” I said smiling

It was 3:30 PM, we decided to just wait in her room before the party or ritual starts. We lied there together, her head on my chest, looking at the ceiling and making up for the times we lost.

The fated moment is near

I’m glad the you are here

to put out the fear

that is welled up in me like tears

I smiled while reading the lines that were just added to the ceiling. I looked at her and she looked at me. I didn’t want to bring up what needs to be discussed but sooner or later we need to do it because we don’t have much time.

“L, what’re you going to choose?” I asked still hugging her

“I don’t know” She answered bluntly

“Well I do” I said to her smiling

“What?” She paused “Don’t say Gray because I won’t do it”

“Yourself”

She didn’t answer but I knew she was thinking about it.

“John, what are we fighting for?” She paused “It’s not our future, our love or even our parents”

“Nothing” I answered

“Nothing?”

“Nothing but our fate”

We didn’t move from where we lied, we just talked and kelted things and we never thought about the what will happen after she chooses because what matters to us is what’s happening right at that moment. Until someone knocked on the door saying “Elizabeth, it’s time”

“We’ll be right out” She answered standing up

I stood up on the bed.

“I’m going to change” She said to me

I felt my face becoming red.

“I won’t look” I said to her smiling

“Don’t worry, I don’t mind” She said to me

As she strips away from her clothes showing me parts of her body that were hidden to everyone but me, I tried to look away. She came to the closet picking up dress that was for today. It didn’t take long before I couldn’t see the dress anymore because she put a familiar hoodie on top of it.

“Did you enjoy the show?” She asked smiling

“W-why do you h-have that on, your d-dress supposed to be shown right?” I asked stammering and changing the subject

“I want a part of you close to me tonight” She said

I stood up from the bed and walked towards her.

“For good luck” I said

I kissed her and she kissed me back, it was the kiss that was probably our last and the kiss that I longed for these past few weeks. It doesn’t burn but I feel that this kiss was the best one I had because I could feel that Ellie didn’t want it to finish kissing as much as I did like we were making each second count. If only our kisses can solve everything, we wouldn’t have to think that this day was our last and we would just be celebrating her birthday or valentines like normal couple… but we can’t.

“Couz, it’s about to start” Sam said on the door

Let’s go L

It was 5:30 PM

“Hold my hand” I said to her smiling
