Chapter Five: My Song
I Found Myself
- Anna Clendening

"Um...okay, let's see...I have something I've been working on." She shifted over to the bench as soon as Levy left, sitting next to Lisanna.

"What are you going to play?" Juvia suddenly asked.

"Well, do you want any specific songs? Or just something I know?" The blonde shrugged.

"Your choice, Lucy. Play whatever you feel like playing," A smile spread across Erza's face as she gave her a thumbs up.

Lucy smiled back before inhaling and exhaling, trying to steady her quickening heartbeat. Her attempt fell flat, but she pushed the feeling away and sighed, finally starting.

"I found myself in a sea of busy places, in a world of blurry faces
I found myself, on the edge of insanity, I found, I found me

My heart was beating, barely breathing but still alive
Lost along the way I'd given up my fight
Scattered to pieces all along the floor, within the brokenness
I found something more

I found myself in a sea of busy places, in a world of blurry faces
I found myself, on the edge of insanity, I found, I found me

I was broken, torn apart
Scars line my arms, on my sleeve I wore my heart
They remind me of what is real
No longer needing pain to feel

I found myself in a sea of busy places, in a world of blurry faces
I found myself, on the edge of insanity, I found, I found me

I found myself in a sea of busy places, in a world of blurry faces
I found myself, on the edge of insanity, I found, I found me

I found myself in a sea of busy places, in a world of blurry faces
I found myself,on the edge of insanity, I found, I found me"

The blonde let out a quiet sigh as she turned to them. "So what'd you think?"

Everyone's eyes were wide with their jaws dropped. Erza was the first to recover as she said, "You were...I can't even find the proper word to describe it."

Juvia grinned. "I think I speak for everyone when I say you were outstanding."

A course of nods and some thumbs up were heard or seen. Lucy got up from the bench and awkwardly curtsied. "So what now?"

"You should sign up for the competition, of course!" Wendy smiled.

"Wait what?" Lucy raised her eyebrow in confusion. "Do you think there's a chance I could still enter?"

"Yeah, auditions don't start until December. People can sign up at any time between September and November, and then it's closed. Since it's only the beginning of October, you have time to prepare a song," Juvia said.

Lucy opened her mouth so say something, but the bell beat her to it. Everyone got out of their seats and said their good-byes before rushing out of the music room.

"Hey, Shrimp. I'm gonna need you for that duet thingy now," Gajeel called out.

"Crap I forgot about that! Lucy, are you okay on your own? I have to finish this assignment with Gajeel really quick," The blunette said hurriedly.

The blonde chuckled and nodded, lightly pushing Levy out the music room door. "I'll be fine. Go, go. I'll see you later."

"Meet me in the courtyard at the end of the day," She pointed a finger in Lucy's face before scurrying away after the metal-pierced guy.

"Bye Levy!" Lucy waved.

That's when the blonde heard a low chuckle from behind her. One that she only heard once, but already seemed to sound all too familiar to her.

She slowly turned around to see the pink haired boy inches away from her, towering over her small figure.

"So you're the eavesdropper, huh? Gotta admit, I was impressed at how good you were," He smirked.

Lucy glared at him in annoyance. "You know there really isn't any need to be so rude all the time."

The boy raised his eyebrows in curiosity. "When exactly have I been rude?"

"You completely embarrassed Gajeel and ruined Levy's moment in the spotlight. And you seem too cocky for your own good."

Natsu only laughed. "I see you've gotten me all figured out?"

The blonde cracked a small smile. "I'm just stating the obvious."

He frowned. "Then you really don't know anything about me. How about after school we go for coffee?"

Lucy squinted at him in disbelief. "Did you seriously just ask me out on a date? I'm flattered but I'm not interest--"

The pink haired boy shook his head. "Not as a date. Just a...'Welcome to FTPA'...get together. Just as friends."

She scoffed. "And since when exactly were you my friend?"

"Since now. Come on, I can show you the rest of the places at this school," He grinned.

"I...actually that doesn't sound like a bad idea," Lucy nodded.

"But on one condition."

"And that is?"

"You agree to our little coffee date after school," Natsu said smugly.

The blonde sighed heavily. "Fine. But I'll need to tell Levy--wait a minute...you said it wasn't a date!"

He laughed. "Oops, you already agreed to it. Let's go, Blondie. We need to keep moving if you want to see the whole school in just a day."

Before Lucy could say anything to object, Natsu was already out the door, still laughing loudly.

The blonde's jaw dropped. "Hey! Don't just leave me behind!"
