Chapter Forty-Five: Romance
---

Lucy sighed, fiddling with her fingers as she waited for the bell to ring. Normally, she'd be happy to be in Vocals, but she really wanted to go home and just sleep.

It took a couple hundred glances at the clock, as well as making sure the teacher hadn't realized she'd been zoning out, but the bell finally rang.

The blonde sprang up from out of her seat and stretched, yawning. She heard a chuckle next to her and opened her eyes.

"Tired?"

Lucy squinted, smiling at him teasingly. "Of you? Yes."

Natsu frowned. "Wow, okay. I guess I'll just be going now," He began walking towards the door.

Lucy laughed, following after him and slipping her hand into his. "Hey, we should go somewhere with Wendy. Maybe the park? And we can bring Plue, Happy, and Carla there. The pets haven't seen the outside in a long time."

Natsu grinned. "Sounds good. I'll call her now to see if she's okay with it." He reached for his phone from his back pocket, his eyes widening as he realized it wasn't there. "Shoot. I left my phone inside." Natsu glanced back at the school and then to Lucy's worried expression. He pursed his lips before saying, "Go without me. I'll see you at the apartment, okay?"

Lucy furrowed her eyebrows. "You sure? I don't mind waiting."

Natsu waved his hand in a dismissive gesture. "It's fine. It might take me awhile, and I can find Wendy if she hasn't gone home yet."

The blonde hesitantly nodded and let out a small breath. "Don't be too late. I'll see you guys."

She continued walking home after Natsu headed back to the school.

"Lucy, hey," A voice called.

She swiveled around in slight confusion, only to see Gray walking up to her. She smiled. "Hey."

"I bumped into Natsu on the way, and he asked me to walk with you."

Lucy sighed. "Thanks, but I don't think I need an escort home."

Gray laughed. "Sorry, Lucy. But I said I would."

The blonde chuckled. "Alright, fine."

Gray and Lucy continued walking down the street together in silence. Lucy clasped her hands behind her back as her eyes wandered to the small cherry blossom trees that were placed along the sidewalks.

"So what song are you and Natsu doing for the dance?" Gray suddenly asked.

Lucy's eyes widened. "Shoot. We haven't given it much thought because of...his mom dying."

Gray frowned. "Oh."

"I'm not even sure if he wants to go. It took him a month just to come back to school, and I'm not sure if he even wants to go," She muttered.

The boy nudged her shoulder with his. "He'll go. And even if you guys choose a song at the very last minute, I'm sure it's going to sound awesome."

Lucy pressed her lips together. "How do you know he will?"

Gray sighed as he stopped walking, stopping Lucy. He turned to her. "I know you guys are all 'smoochy-smooch,'-"

The blonde squinted as she mouthed back, "'Smoochy-smooch'?"

"-But trust me when I say that he will go to that dance. For you," He continued, ignoring her confused look.

Lucy frowned. "But if he doesn't want to go, and that's what he wants...then I won't go. For him."
