Chapter Thirty-Eight: Trust
---Lucy kept her head down, pressing her forehead against Natsu's back, letting him steer the way towards the main entrance of the school. She could feel the students' stared burning through her, whispering every chance they got.
Every time her eyes met someone else's, they'd quickly look away, only to look back at her as soon as her eyes returned to staring at the floor.
The two turned around the corridor and headed for the stairs leading up to the roof. Lucy let out a shaky sigh as Natsu brought her to his side, wrapping arm around her torso. "You okay?"
The blonde kept her eyes on the stairs as they reached the door. "Yeah," She murmured.
Natsu took in a small breath before saying, "Hey, if anything, we can just go and-"
"I found you two," A voice cut him off.
Natsu and Lucy turned to see Jenny leaning her side against the doorframe, a seemingly sweet smile on her face.
"Jenny," Lucy strained herself from rolling her eyes. She smiled politely before inhaling sharply. "What are you doing here?"
Jenny pushed herself off the doorframe and slowly paced towards them. "I heard what happened, with the papers and everything. I'm sorry you have to go through this all," She pouted slightly, placing a hand on Lucy's upper arm.
The blonde glanced at her hand and frowned slightly. "Yeah...thanks."
"Doesn't it suck? Being the daughter of such a horrible man?" Jenny leaned her face closer, tilting her head to the side as if she was curious.
Lucy yanked her arm away from Jenny, feeling her grip tighten around her arm as the words came out of her mouth.
Jenny smiled, clasping her hands behind her back. "I'll take that as a yes, then," She let out a laugh, "And you actually thought you'd be able to keep it a secret for long."
Lucy blinked angrily, letting the built up tears stain her face. "You bitch."
Jenny's smile wavered. She sneered and said, "It's not my fault your father is conniving, egotistical jack-"
The blonde was suddenly cut off as Lucy's hand made contact with her face. "Don't you dare say those things about my father. What he did was none of your business."
"Really? I think it is. In fact, it's the whole world's business." Jenny glared at her. "People have the right to know one of the former most powerful and richest company owners indirectly killed a man. Then again, everyone knows that already."
"Why are you doing this? Lucy hasn't done anything wrong to deserve this," Natsu yelled, finally losing his temper. He stood in front of Lucy, feeling the blonde rest her head against the back of his shirt.
"She deserves to be punished for what her father did," Jenny crossed her arms over her chest.
"You don't get to decide that. What he did wasn't her fault, and you don't have a right to be-" Natsu craned his neck to look at the blonde beauty behind him. She tugged on his shirt, tears streaming down her face.
