Chapter Thirty-Nine: Rain

Rain was something most people tried their best to get away from; to get out of. Something that wasn't appreciated. But she was different. She stopped to enjoy the raindrops that fell from the light gray clouds above.

Lucy smiled slightly, letting her fingers peer out from under the cover of the umbrella to feel the small raindrops land on her fingertips. She kicked a small pile of leftover snow and watched it start to melt because of the rain.

She had some catching up to do, calling in sick these past few weeks. Maybe it wasn't the best decision, to hide rather than face the aftermath of what happened, but she didn't care. Lucy needed some sort of inspiration to even bother going to school at this point, and she finally found that.

The whole reason she'd kept trying to get into Fairy Tail of Performing Arts was because of her mother. Sure, she wasn't planning on following her footsteps exactly, but then again she didn't know what she wanted.

What Lucy did know? She wasn't going to let anything stop her from achieving her goal...well, as soon as she found one.

She took a deep breath in, tilting her umbrella up to see the fairy symbol of the school, memories itching their way back into her mind.

"Here we go," Lucy mumbled. She pushed the doors open, closing her umbrella and shaking off as much of the raindrops as possible outside before walking into the building, putting down the hood of her raincoat.

Students peeled themselves away from their conversation, noticing the un-introduced arrival of the blonde.

Everyone was quiet as the wooden doors of the school shut behind her. Whispers sprouted, replacing the once loud and talkative hallway.

Lucy made her way to her class, not noticing-or trying her best to ignore-the stares and whispers that had erupted again. Two weeks. It took her two weeks to even gather up the courage to come back.

She wasn't about to let whispers and stares get the best of her.

Natsu was bored out of his mind, glancing outside the nearby window to watch the raindrops sliding down the glass pane.

It had been two weeks since the incident that had taken place at school. She still wasn't back yet, and he wasn't sure what would happen if she-when she did.

Things went quiet during those two weeks. Not as many whispers, and no stares. Gray and the others hadn't made any attempts to call or talk to her. Not even once.

Maybe they were hoping he would. Like that would happen. As much as he wanted to call, or text, or do something, he knew it'd be pointless.

He watched the door, his eyes following the group as they filled up the seats around him.

The teacher walked in soon after, mumbling about needing to get class started. She huffed, eyes scanning the seats. Her eyes landed on an empty one before she looked at Natsu.

He shook his head, sighing quietly to himself. He rested his neck on the top of the chair, letting his head roll back until he saw one of the music theory posters plastered on the wall.
