13. Amends

Kara POV

"You are unbelievable!" I shout as I enter my apartment, and I see zillions of roses in front of me with a banner at the end if the living room that says: 'Happy Birthday Kara!'. I can't stop jumping up and down and Barry looks at me the way every girl wants to be looked at. I close my mouse shut and stop jumping, turning to him, with a smile planted on my lips. I put my hand on his neck and draw him closer for a kiss.

He tastes like happiness. Like this is what people mean when they think about the brighter days. I'm helplessly in love with him. For a minute, time doesn't exist and tragedies disappear, but after that second, I can notice him pull away a bit.

I pull apart as well and furrow my eyebrows at him but he doesn't meet my gaze. I'm about to ask him about it, when suddenly red and blue balloons come flying out of nowehere. Winn, James, J'onzz, and Lena pop up from behind the couch.

I open my mouth and arms to hug everybody. When I'm in the middle of a group hug I realize Alex is standing there with a smirk on her lips, leaning on the wall like the total badass she is. Wearing black of course and her hands crossed over her chest.

"I just couldn't miss your birthday, kid." She then opens her arms to wrap me in a warm hug. Tears build up in my yes as I feel like it's been centuries. I can swear she smells like paradise.

I stay on her arms for about a mine and slowly unwrap myself. I sigh.

"Thank you." I breathe out. Then we precede to slice the cake. Well...by cake...I mean about 30. Barry and I eat the rest after the first one is finished. I laugh as Winn's girlfriend literally smashes my face against one of the chocolate cakes on the counter.
Barry places his elbows on the table and smiles crookedly, but I do notice something's wrong.

You don't need to have J'onnz' telepathic abilities to know that. You just need his girlfriend.

Barry POV

"Barry..." Alex calls after me, as I'm walking towards the kitchen counter, while Kara's laughter fills the room. I look up to Alex and offer her a smile but I can tell she's not buying it. She takes a deep breath in and puts her hands on her hips, one eyebrow lifted up.

"What's going on with you?" She asks me and I put my elbows on the counter, with my hands on my face, trying to brush it off.

"Nothing." I respond quietly.

"I'm not stupid and you're not a good liar, so tell me. What's going on?" She demands and I look at her right in the eye then look behind her, where Kara is sitting, laughing and enjoying her birthday party. Something I should be doing too.

"I just have my mind on someone." I whisper and Alex turns around to look at Kara, bringing up the smile she always gets when she looks at her.

"Well, since I'm guessing it's not Kara...who is it?" I know Kara isn't listening, since they're playing Never Have I Ever, and she's giggling histerically, so I take my chances and tell Alex.

"You need to tell her." Alex warns me after I tell her and I nod in response.

"Was the party too boring for you?" Kara takes me by surprise as Winn and his girlfriend leaves. I open my mind to speak and straighten up a little, looking directly at her baby blue eyes.

"No, the party was great!" I exclaim, a little bit more jolly than I should, and that's when she notices something's off, because she squints her eyes. I put my hands on my pockets and look down.

"What is it then?" She questions, taking a more demanding position, with her arms crossed across her chest and her chin high, as if she's daring me to lie to her.
