Kara POV
When we get to my apartment, I try to remind myself to take a deep breaths. I haven't been here since the accident.
I let Barry in first and close the door behind me.
He turns around and sighs with a smile on his face
"Thank you Kara." He says. He was pretty shaken up and I have a million questions but I know that he will tell me when he's ready.
"You're welcome." I whisper but he seems to notice that there's something wrong.
"Where's Mon-el?" He asks and the name makes my heart stop for a minute. I close my eyes for a second and remain quiet.
"Oh. I'm sorry." He apologizes when he realizes he's dead. He comes close to me and hugs me. I hug him back but pull away before I start crying.
"It's okay. It's just...hard." I explain myself, tucking my hair behind my ear.
"I lost my dad this year. And I guess you could say my mom too." We smile at each other pathetically. It's funny how the people who try the most are the ones who lose the most.
"We'll get through this." I whisper and trying to cheer up a bit but the sadness hangs up in the air.
---
"Okay...here's another one..." I continue as we're watching TV.
"What do you get form Alaskan cows?" I ask, trying hard not to burst out laughing.
He smiles and shakes his head.
"Ice cream!" I say cheerfully and he starts laughing histerically. Popcorn flies to all directions as my stomach hurts from laughing too much.
"Thats pretty bad." He breathes out. I try to calm myself down, when suddenly the television switches to the news section.
The reporter seems to be awfully scared.
"There's something on top of Cat Co. Worldwide Media. The subject remains hostile and I have been informed that there's people still in the building!" In the background there's people fleeing and running.
I look at Barry amd concerns lingers in his gaze.
"I have to go." I announce, grab my suit and leave.
---"Winn, what the hell is that!?" I ask him. He seems to stutter for a while.
"I-I have no idea. Im trying to get a better look but it doesn't fit in any frame of any camera around the area. Its enormous!" He exclaims.
"I can see that!" I shout and finally try to focus. The enormous, octopus-like robot wraps itself around the Cat Co building breaking the windows. It's legs are at least 15 feet tall and it doesn't seem to have a face, however its definitely a robot.
I fly around the building, inspecting it. With my x-ray vision, I notice theres people inside the building.
"Im going to try to get it off the building!" I tell Winn. I first localize a metallic leg and hit it with my laser vision, making it fall to the ground. One out of 5- I think to myself.
On the other side of the building I tear the second leg apart from its body and throw it to the ground.
However, when Im about to punch through the third, one of them wraps it's metallic tail around me. It squeezes my body with unbelievable strength and I start to gasp for air. My ribs seem to be crushing my insides and my lungs struggle to breathe.
Somehow, I manage to get the last amount of oxygen I have in me and freeze the metal around me, freeing myself with a punch. The leg shatters into a million pieces.
The other two are easier and more manageable, though the screams of the people make me uneasy. I have to save them.
By the time, the thing is finally paralyzed, I notice something. The building is collapsing. I have to the get the heavy robot off the building, if I don't it'll land on top of the civilians. I grab whats left of the metal plate and lift it up in the air, flying high.
My hands and arms ache horribly but all I visualize is the sea. I need to drop it on water. If I don't, it'll crush the city.
"Common, Supergirl!" I hear Alex urge and that gives me strength to reach a safe distance between the city and me, dropping it.
It lands with a big splash and then everything is quiet.
---Barry POV
People cheer for her as she enters the building. She flashes a smile and then looks at me with kindness but the last thing I can do is smile. She tilts her head when she notices
something is off.
"I wanted to help you Kara, I swear-" I start but she puts her hands on my shoulders.
"Barry, slow down. You didn't have to go out there. Its my city remember? Its my responsibility, and plus, I found you half dead in the dessert today." She tries to make me feel better but now I don't only feel guilty but I feel ashamed.
"I was scared." I whisper. She seems confused and I continue.
"I killed a ten year old girl." I pause but Kara's face remains unchanged.
"Her name was Olivia. I saved Iris instead of her. I cant even look at the symbol I wear on my chest anymore. I was a coward. I ran. Thats what I always do." Words seem pour out.
"Follow me." She says and I do.
---
"Its beautiful, isn't it?" She wonders as were on too of the Cat Co building. I observe the twinkling lights in awe and nod.
"You see that blue light near the pharmacy?" She asks me, pointing at it. Its very far away, but its blue indeed.
"Thats a club. A woman named Rose owns it. I killed that woman's husband after I tore a piece of concrete apart and accidentally landed on him." My heart stops and I look at her. Tears slide of her face.
"And somewhere over there..." She points at a patch of white twinkling lights.
"-lives a girl who's going to grow up without her baby brother because I thought that keeping a building whole was more important than getting the kids out first. " I open my mouth in disbelief.
"Those two are just some of the casualties, I've caused Barry. But when you get out there, you need to understand that being the hero comes along with the villain resumé." She explains whipping the tears off her face.
I understand now as I look at every individual light.
"A mistake does not define who we are. What defines who we are is how we learn from those mistakes. How we choose to improve ourselves. Thats what makes us who we are." She tells me. I close my eyes for a moment and breath out. It feels like Im no longer carrying something thats crushing my insides. Its still there, but because of Kara, I don't want it to go away.
"Thank you, Kara. You are...extraordinary." Her blue eyes seem to linger in mine for a second and I feel compelled by her.
Suddenly, Winn speaks through the comm.
"Guys, we have a problem." His voices shakes. Kara brakes the stare and so do I.
"Wheres my suit?" I ask Kara with a smirk.
I wont run from this, not anymore, I want to learn from it.
Like she does.
