I was stood just outside the compound when I realised what a dumbass I had been by leaving the hilltop. Correction: absolute idiot.
So naturally I had intended on turning my ass back around and going back to the hilltop. Only that plan failed? Why? You'll see.
It was a peaceful time of night as I stood outside the metal fencing of the compound, all that could be heard was the chirping of crickets. The moon beams made everything visible but I was surprised to see not a single saviour in sight.
I figured since there wasn't a single soul here that I could leave, but you know me. If someone I know is in trouble, I've gotta help.
And it just so happened that Sasha was in trouble. I felt myself clench my jaw as I watched Sasha become surrounded by saviours and I was gobsmacked at first as to what to do.
Do I leave her here, to defend for herself? Or do I help?
I was having an inner debate with myself, I didn't want to leave her but I needed to protect my baby, I know, hypocritical since I came here in the first place. Although I'm pretty sure even Negan wouldn't kill a pregnant woman.
Breathing deeply did I mentally curse Sasha for getting caught as I began to climb the metal fence. I placed the blade of my knife in my mouth as I latched onto the silver fence and kept climbing until I reached the top.
Jumping down and making a quiet thump did I grasp my knife in my hand and thrust it into the back of a saviours head. I didn't necessarily want to kill any of these men, but it was them or Sasha, and I chose Sasha.
We exchanged a nod as I plunged my blade into the chest of saviours trying to shoot me whilst Sasha used her rifle to take them down.
Running around the corner to find anywhere that we could hide did we lean our backs flat against one of the concrete walls that felt cold on my back so we could regain our breaths.
"What are you doing here?" Sasha asked in between breaths. "Are you crazy?"
"Yes. I think I am."
"You're pregnant. You shouldn't be here."
"Really? I didn't even realise I was carrying a child. Thanks for pointing that out."
"You know what I mean." She panted.
"Well why did you have to get caught? I was about to leave."
"You should have."
"And leave you?"
"Yes."
"Yeah." I scoffed. "Like I'll leave a friend to fight these bastards on their own."
"Thankyou." She nodded. "Right or left?"
"Right."
Once we had both regained our breaths I cursed under my breaths to see a crowed of saviours with handguns pointed at us around the corner.
"I've changed my mind. I think left would be a better option." I shouted, skidding on my heels to change direction.
"It just so happens I think that too." Sasha huffed running to keep up with me.
We were both panting likes dogs but running as fast as our legs could carry us in order to find a exit out of the building but it just seemed like a never ending maze. Unfortunately We approached yet another dead end. Just our luck.
"Well shit." I sighed.
To make matters 10 times worse there were at least 5 saviours now standing behind us with their arms folded over their chests and smug looks on their faces as they looked at us and our trapped selves. Jesus Christ, they just kept popping out of thin air. Why couldn't I have that talent?
"Now what?"
I lowered my voice as I answered Sasha's question, my voice barely a whisper as the saviours walked closer towards us.
"Duck."
Sasha knitted her brows together as she turned her sweaty and exhausted face to face mine.
"Duck and slide." I huffed.
"What?"
"Oh my god. You know penguins?"
"Uh, well, you've lost me."
"Do you know what penguins are or are you a damn dumbass Sasha?"
"Yes! I know what penguins are. But now isn't the time."
"No. Now is the time to duck and be a penguin."
"What the hell ophelia?"
"Just...just follow my lead."
Grabbing her hand before she could protest did I break out into a run, pulling her down with me did I duck down so that I was laying flat on the ground and slid under the saviours and through their legs like how penguins slide on their bellies, except I was pregnant so I went on my back.
The saviours looked absolutely confused and gobsmacked by our actions and I couldn't help the small grin tugging on my lips.
Pushing ourselves of the ground did i nudge Sasha on her shoulder and raise my brows before she spoke.
"You seriously call that move a being a penguin?"
"It lightens the mood. Me and my brother did it all the time. What would you call it?"
"I don't know....maybe sliding through their legs."
"Penguins is cooler."
"You sure are one of a kind Ophelia Dixon."
"I know." I smirked.
Running even faster did we approach an exit and I mentally thanked the lord, if their even was one. We burst through the double doors with our arms open wide.
We were oh so close to climbing that fence to escape, so close. But it wasn't meant to be.
I looked to my side to see Sasha was out cold, she had been knocked out with the but of a gun from a saviour who was stood above her.
We were surrounded, and Sasha wasn't even conscious. Great.
Feeling a sharp sting throb though my head did my eyes begin to feel heavy as my knees went wobbly and weak. I had been hit in the head with the but of a gun and was about to be out cold. Not how I planned my evening.
"Crap."
*********
Ophelia's been caught, dun dun dun....which means she's gonna be seeing a certain someone again :0
