Sophia
I must have fallen asleep because I woke to my bedroom door slowly opening. I quickly grabbed a towel, wrapping it around myself, and started draining the water from the bath. Stepping into the bedroom, I saw the boy with Coco standing there, looking for me.
"Over here, big guy," I giggled.
He turned, saw me, and immediately looked away.
"Oh... uh, your dog... did his business?" he said, holding out the leash.
"Thanks," I said, taking the leash and setting it on the table next to the bed. I glanced back at him.
"Her name is Coco, by the way," I added, walking toward the closet to find something to wear.
I grabbed one of the larger shirts and threw it on. I couldn't find any underwear, so... whatever. At least the shirt went down to my knees. Stepping back out, I saw the boy starting to leave.
"Hey," I called, catching his attention. "You didn't get in trouble, did you? For earlier?"
He shook his head. "Not yet," he said.
"Well, if they have any problem, just send them to me, okay? I'll tell them how I tricked you," I laughed, remembering how easy it had been.
He laughed too. "Thanks," he said, before heading out.
I left the bathroom light on, shutting the door a crack, then turned off the rest of the lights. I climbed into bed with Coco and snuggled close, starting to drift off again.
Suddenly, the door opened slowly and quietly. Probably one of the guards checking on me... I pretended to be asleep. When I finally heard the door close, I relaxed.
Then the bed shifted. I jumped up, looking up—and there was Jasper, his bright smile and striking eyes fixed on me. I fell back onto the bed, clutching my chest.
"What the f... u... c... k, Jasper?! You almost gave me a heart attack!" I said, breathless.
He laughed softly. I sat up, still worried.
"Where's Ashley?!" I yelled.
"Shhh... she's fine. People are sleeping. She's upstairs with my brother," he said, pointing above us.
I quickly grabbed a pair of shorts from the closet and tied the end of the shirt. Stepping back out, I saw Jasper staring at Coco.
"Let's go. Take me to her," I demanded.
Jasper shook his head.
"Not now. She's hurt and with my brother," he replied.
I slammed my hands on the bed, making Coco jump.
"If she's hurt, I need to be with her. I don't care if she's with Jesus, I get to see my best friend whenever I damn well want! Now take me to her before I break the ceiling and climb up myself!" I yelled.
Jasper sat there, wide-eyed.
"Okay... I'll take you up there. But when you get rejected entry, you can come crying to me," he said with a smirk.
He stood and held out his hand. I took it, and we headed out. We walked down a hallway and started up more stairs. At the top, three guards blocked our path.
"Alpha and Luna only," one said.
I looked him dead in the eye. "Now listen here, you!" I said, poking him in the chest. "Imagine your best friend—no, your mate—in pain and stressed. You'd want to comfort them, right? Well, my best friend, the one who almost died for me, is behind that door. Now, if you don't let me through, I'll tear all of you apart to save her. Got it?" I poked him one last time.
He raised an eyebrow, smirked, and said, "Wow."
"Now are you going to let me go save my best friend, or will I have to force my way through?" I asked.
His eyes briefly glazed over, then returned to normal. To my surprise, he stepped aside and opened the door.
"Go ahead," he said.
I grabbed Jasper's hand, and we hurried down the hall. Once the door closed behind us, I squealed.
"Oh my God, I can't believe that worked!" I said, looking back at Jasper's astonished face.
"I can't either," he said.
Jasper led me to a set of white double doors.
"Is she in there?" I asked.
"Yes. She is," he said, squeezing my hand reassuringly.
I flung the doors open and looked around. Jasper's brother sat on the bed, looking up at us.
"Where is she?" I asked.
He pointed to the door on the right. I let go of Jasper's hand and ran for it. Looking back, I teased,
"Hey, you pervs, look away! She could be naked!"
They quickly looked at each other and then averted their eyes.
I knocked lightly and opened the door. Ashley lay in the tub, bruised and cut, her hair matted. I stepped inside, shutting the door behind me, and slowly walked to her, tears welling.
"Ashley?" I asked softly. "It's me... Sophia."
Her eyes fluttered open, shock written across her face, and then filled with tears. She leaned up, wrapping her arms around me as I wrapped mine around her.
"Oh, Sophia... I was so scared," she cried into my shoulder.
I patted her back, scooping some water and running it down to soothe her. Looking into her eyes, I said, "Let's get you fixed up, okay?"
She nodded and settled back in the tub while I grabbed a washcloth and began gently cleaning the dirt and blood from her body.
