Chapter 45

Sophia

Training was great. I was in too much physical pain to think about him. Once it was over, Javiare walked with me back to the pack house for breakfast. We were all really gross, so none of us bothered to shower. I walked into the dining hall and sat at my seat while Javiare sat at his. Everyone was seated except Roman and Ashley. Where could they be? Oh, they're probably cuddling it up upstairs with each other while I slept alone. Figures, Roman seems like the guy that would do that.

Suddenly, the door opened, and Jared stood there, looking sad. Everyone watched as he walked over to our table. He stood behind the Alpha's chair and rested his hand on it.

"Ladies and gentlemen, I have an announcement," he said, getting everyone's attention.

We all leaned forward.

"Roman and Ashley both ran away last night," he said.

The whole room gasped. I then heard a guy all the way in the back stand up and yell, "Bull$hit!"

"I know, I know, it's hard to believe, but it is true. Roman said goodbye to me just last night. He told me that his love for Ashley was the only thing he needed," he explained to everyone. "And since Jasper is not here, and they do not have any heirs..." he said slowly and solemnly.

It then hit me, my question to Marita: if they have no other blood and no heirs, the Alpha position goes to...

"Me, I will be your new Alpha, and I will never abandon you like Roman did," he said to us. "At dinner tomorrow, we will arrange who will be my Beta," he added, walking over to the buffet table. "Who knows, maybe you all will like me better than Roman," he said, piling eggs, bacon, and a whole load of other things onto his plate. Then, he walked back over to the Alpha chair and sat down. He threw a piece of bacon in his mouth and cheered, "You may eat."

I stood up and got my food. Once breakfast was over, I followed Jared out of the pack house.

"Hey, Jared, wait up," I called out.

He turned around and smiled at me. "Oh, hello Sophia. Please call me Alpha when we're in public. It's my new title," he told me.

"Oh, right, yeah, sorry, but I don't know what you're planning. I could tell you were the only one happy about them leaving. If you have a plan against Roman..." I paused and thought for a moment. "I want in," I blurted out quickly.

Jared's eyes widened in surprise, then a smile played on his lips. "Ears are everywhere, my dear. Please follow me," he said, leading me back inside all the way up to the Alpha's floor.

He opened a room across from the bedroom. It was a smaller office than the other one but still large nonetheless. He sat down behind the desk and gestured for me to sit. I sat in one of the posh Victorian chairs.

"So, you think I have some type of plan?" he asked.

I shrugged. "If I know one thing, it's that Ashley would never run away from the Luna position, or run away, period. She tried back when we were kids, but she only got as far as the front door before she got scared and ran back into her room," I told him. He chuckled and motioned for me to continue.

"So I'm guessing you did something to convince them to go away," I explained. "And I hate Roman more than the next guy for what he did to Jasper. No matter what your family does, you should never do that to someone you care about," I told him. I saw his fists clench when I talked about family. "So, I want in, to get my revenge against Roman. So long as Ashley won't get hurt."

Jared thought for a while, his elbows rested on the table and his head on his hands. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. "No," he said flatly.

I stood up. "No! Why not?!" I yelled.

He motioned for me to sit down, and I sat. "What can you offer me?" he asked. "What can I gain by having you as my ally?"

I then started thinking. "Someone to back up your story. The people like me. I proved myself to them on my first day. They don't trust you," I said to him.

He raised a brow. "Oh really?"

"Yes, I can talk with some of them and tell them how great you'll be. I can also say that Ashley texted me and said she left and that she wishes me luck," I said, turning on my phone.

I heard Jared laugh. "Well, well, you surprise me once again. Welcome to the team," he said. "And what will you gain from this?"

"Make me your Luna," I said.

He had a devilish smile. "Oh, what, you like little old me?" he said with an innocent voice.

I shook my head. "No, I'm sick of sleeping in that room alone. Every time I go in there, it reminds me of him. And I think being Luna would be pretty fun," I explained.

He held out his hand. "Welcome to the team," he said, shaking my hand.

We both stood up and headed out. Jared left the pack house while I went to hang out with Javiare. I had some questions to ask him...
