Sophia

As we walked to Christine's, it was total silence the whole way. I'm guessing he was as awkward as I was right now. We walked over to the wagon, and I could see some people there already talking with Christine. Javiare and I waited until she was done to walk over to her.

"Hey, Christine!" I waved.

She turned around. "Oh, hey, um, what's up?" she asked, putting away a few things.

"We wanted to come over and tell you about Roman," I said.

She looked up. "What about him?" She put a leather pouch in a box.

"Well, him and Ashley ran away together," I said.

Christine dropped the box she was holding, and it crashed on the ground. "They what?!" she yelled.

"Um, they left. Ran away together. They only needed each other, Roman said before leaving," I explained to her. "And Jared is the Alpha now."

She quickly picked up the box she dropped and ran into her wagon. "Well, then that should be my cue to leave," she yelled back. "I knew I shouldn't have stayed longer than a few days," she mumbled to herself.

"But wait, you don't have to leave!" I followed her to her wagon. "Why does this mean you have to leave?" I asked, following her to another box.

She picked up the box and started walking back to the wagon, with me following her. "I don't like Alphas. They're big, mean, scary. Even Roman scared me. Now there's this random mo-shmo walking in. I at least saw Roman beforehand; this guy, I have nothing on. He could order to kill me at any moment. So, I come, sell some things, do some tricks, and maybe heal someone. Then I split," she explained, carrying more boxes into her wagon.

I stood in front of her with my arms spread out. "Please just stay for a few more days," I pleaded. "In case they come back."

She looked at me, rolled her eyes, and then took a deep breath. "Fine, two more days. That last night, I'm leaving," she told me.

I jumped up and hugged her. "Yay! I promise you won't regret staying," I said, letting her go.

"Yeah, yeah," she rolled her eyes at me. "Now, were you here for another reading or what?"

I looked over at Javiare. "Not me. Javiare wants one," I said, pushing Javiare over to the table.

"W-wait, I do?" he asked, confused.

"Yes, you do," I said, elbowing his side. "Remember?" I added, with a voice that said work with me here.

"Oh, yeah," he said, catching on.

Christine shook her head. "You kids are really bad at lying, but whatever," she said, walking over to the table with a deck of cards.

She told him to do everything I did, and she started flipping the cards over one by one. This time, she looked over at Javiare. "Aww, this one here says you will find love in an unexpected place, and this one says you need to be prepared for something," she told him. "The final set of cards means you have luck by your side," she said.

Javiare nodded. "Thanks, I'll keep those in mind," he told her.

She looked at both of us one at a time. "Good, I'm glad you both are wearing your necklaces," she said.

I looked down and picked up mine. "Yeah, I really like it. It's pretty," I said, admiring it.

"Same," Javiare said. "I haven't taken it off since you gave it to me."

I looked up. "Same!" I said, excited.

We both laughed while Christine shook her head. "So, what's in your wagon anyway? I always hear you throwing or breaking something in there," I asked.

"Do you want a tour?" she asked.

I got really excited. "Yes!" I said, really quickly.

She got up and led us over to the wagon. "The first floor is mainly for the kitchen and potion-making on this side. While that side over there is for books and physical magic. Upstairs is the best part though," she said, really enthusiastically.

I leaned closer. "What's that used for?" I asked.

"It's..." she got low and really quiet. "My bedroom," she said, laughing afterwards. "What did you expect? A torture room?!"

I laughed too. "I don't know, this whole supernatural world is new and weird to me," I told her, looking around the wagon.

It was a small room with a kitchen on the left and bookshelves and other things on the right. I looked up and saw a balcony with a ladder that led to the second floor, where a door sat in the middle. That must be her bedroom. On the roof was a skylight that looked like it hadn't been dusted in forever, and the bookshelves had dusty books and knick-knacks everywhere. The kitchen had jars of who-knows-what most of the time and bottles of various liquids. The floors were wood, and under the balcony, a set of really skinny, tall doors sat.

"What's in there?" I pointed.

Christine walked over to the set of doors and opened them. "This just leads out to the front so I can start," she explained.

"Oh, so you have a horse that pulls it?"

"Yeah, I named her Josie. But she doesn't like a lot of people, so I keep her in the back."

I peeked out the doorway and saw a brown horse standing, drinking water. I'd never really been close to a horse. It was a lot bigger than I thought. I leaned back inside, and Christine shut the doors.

"Oh well, we should get going. I said I would show Sophia around a bit more," Javiare said.

Christine nodded. "Two days, you hear me?" she pointed at us as we started to walk out.

"Loud and clear!" I waved back.

Roman

It was dark— not dark enough that I couldn't see, but just dark. I held Ashley's necklace in my hand and kept smelling her scent. I didn't know if she was alive or dead. I didn't know anything, except I'm trapped in this cell. I can't even shift or mind-link anyone. The silver is blocking all of my abilities, and it's slowly making me weaker. If I'm in here longer than a week, I might die. But before I let myself slip away, I'm going to find Ashley and make sure that bastard didn't hurt her...
