The sound of cars driving by as the drops of rain hit the ground. The heat mixing with the rain causing the air to feel thick with humidity. Everything was going slow yet so fast. The whole scene was too much for me to handle. My heart was beating fast, I ran to Shawn.

"Oh god...oh god." That's all that I was able to get out of my mouth as I knelled at his side.

He held onto his side as he laid on his back staring at the sky, "Fuck, I've felt pain but this has got to be the worst." He tried to joke.

"S-Shawn tell me what to do, I don't know what to do." My voice shook as I tried to remain calm.

You know those moments where you feel the need to be grown. Like you're in a situation where in a split second you need to be strong, think, and just be calm but you couldn't help but feel like a kid. You lose sight of everything you used to know and just remember you don't know much.

That's what it felt like, I was a 22 year old nurse still going to school to be a doctor and yet here I was. Kneeling down next to Shawn who was bleeding from his side. The red glistening on the ground as it mixed with the rain and was reflected by the street light.

"Just...uh- just breathe Maddie. Y-you can do this. Just don't take...Don't take so much time okay?" He asked trying to smile.

I knew he was in pain, knew I should move or start to help. But I couldn't, I couldn't move or think clearly. I was scared, scared that he had already lost too much blood. Scared to lose him.

"S-Shawn I can't-"

He looked at me, his once light brown eyes now a dark brown. He smiled but I could tell he was trying to calm me down. He was hurting, I seen fear behind the smile. This was the second time I've ever seen that emotion on him since we met.

"Maddie, you can do it. Take a breath, I believe in you okay?" He asked me.

I nodded my head, I moved my hair away from my face and ripped his shirt to reveal the wound. I had to turn him over to see if the bullet went through.

I grabbed my phone and dialed my friend Jess. As I did that I was pressing down on the wound. He groaned in pain and I could feel my eyes prick with tears.

"Hello? Maddox! Where are you?" She answered.

"Jess I need you quick, I'm on 4th street and Adelaide's alley. Please hurry and call an ambulance." I told her.

I then dropped the phone and attempted to roll Shawn on his side. I looked and noticed that it didn't come out. Fuck.

"Okay Shawn the ambulance is on its way, you're going to be fine okay?" I asked him as if he was just going to be happy and everything was fine.

He just nodded his head, he tried to smile but it started to falter. His eyes started to slowly close.

"No, no, no Shawn stay with me. Open your eyes. Please, Shawn you can't sleep." I said starting to feel really panicked.

He opened his eyes and nodded, "I....I'm so....so tired Mads. Maybe...I could just...just sleep a little." He said as his eyes kept getting heavier and heavier.

"No Shawn, please stay awake the ambulance is almost here. Please you can't sleep. You do you die and I can't...I can't lose you. Please stay with me." I pleaded feeling even more like a kid.

A kid who is seeing and living in a moment where they shouldn't. Where they can't do anything because they don't have the knowledge of doing anything. All they can do is sit there and watch it unfold in front of them.

They're pleading for someone to help, someone to come and save them. But no one came within the time I needed them.

No one came when his eyes finally closed.
