"If this is fate, it's not how I expected it to work."

Maddox.
Seven days. That's how long I had been going to the cafe. I went so often for coffee I didn't really need. Coffee I sometimes didn't even finish. Wasteful black liquid that would be hot but by the time I gave up waiting would turn still and cold.
Maybe meeting that mystery guy wasn't really fate. It was just a one time thing, like it was a one shot situation. I started to think that on the second day of returning and waiting in the cafe. It wasn't till today when I decided to not wait and just head to work.
I walked into the cafe and seen my best friend, Jess standing behind the counter. I entered the cafe making the bell on the door rang. Jess looked up from cleaning up the counter and when she seen me she smiled.
I had a pout on my face and walked over to her. I sat down on the counter stool and set my bag down. I rested my elbows on the counter and rested my face in my hands.
"Oh my dear Maddie, what's with the sad face? Giving up on mystery man? Finally realized your theory on fate wasn't real?" She asked as she stood in front of me.
I sighed, "Don't remind me, but be honest how pathetic did I look?" I asked.
She walked over to refill another customers cup with coffee. After she was done pouring she set it down and looked up in thought. She then turned to look at me and smiled.
"Well does it count that it was pretty cute how much you hoped for it to be fate?" She asked trying not to say what we both knew she meant.
I groaned and dropped my head on my now crossed arms, "Ugh I must've looked dumb to everyone who was here each day." I mumbled.
"No not really...well I mean not everyone came everyday they either came every other day or every few days." She joked.
I looked up at her and sighed, "God I got out of one really awful relationship and here I am trying to find a new one? Was I crazy?" I asked her.
She put a cup in front of me, it was filled with coffee. I picked it up and tasted it and sure enough it was just the way I liked it. She shook her head at my questions.
"No it's not crazy, maybe deep down you wanted some sign. Maybe you're not over Trevor and are trying to find someone to fill that void." Jess tried to explain.
I made a disgusted face at the mention of his name, "Ew I'm definitely not missing Trevor. Trust me that is so in the past, its fossilized. Dead and gone." I told her.
"Okay well what was it about him? Maybe something sparked an interest or pulled you in." Jess told me.
I sat back on the stool, "I'm not sure, he was just mysterious. I mean I almost bumped into him and spilled my coffee all over him. But Jess he moved so fast, like it's as if he knew it was going to happen. And the way he looked and spoke, he was just so...secretive."
"Oh so we're talking about someone mysterious and hot. Someone dangerous?" She asked suddenly looking sucked into my situation.
I laughed, "Maybe, I don't know. Maybe I'm just tired of living my boring life. Maybe there was something about him that was exciting."
