"Are things as normal as they should be?"

Pain. That's all I felt, pain in my body. From my head to my toes, the feeling of being sore clearly evident. My eyes felt too heavy to open, but I tried to open them. I wanted to but they just felt like bricks like something heavy weighing down on them.

I used all the strength I could and opened my eyes. Probably wasn't a smart idea for I was blinded by bright lights. The light bouncing off the white walls made it worse. I groaned in pain from the lights blinding me.

I attempted to do it again but this time slowly so that I could adjust to it. I opened my eyes to see a somewhat empty room. I looked to my left to see the beeping monitors that were hooked up to me. I looked down for see my lower body covered with the hospital blanket.

I then looked to my right and see a sleeping Maddox. Her breathing was even and she looked like she hadn't slept in hours. It made me wonder how long I had actually been in the hospital for.

Just then the door opened and in walked Matt with two cups of coffee. He looked at me and had a smile on his face as he closed the door.

"Well welcome back to the real world buddy." He said with a chuckle.

I attempted to laugh but my side hurt, I ended up coughing which wasn't any better. Both had caused me pain in my side and that's when I remembered everything. I was flooded with visions of what happened prior to being in the hospital.

Maddox getting abducted, the alley, Adam holding her and a gun to her head. Then her fighting him back and getting to hold her in my arms. Then him shooting at her, but the bullet didn't touch her. I moved the hospital gown to the side and seen a large patch covering a piece of my side.

I sighed as I put my gown back to the way it was. Just then Maddox moved, I watched as she opened her eyes revealing her hazel green eyes. The way her long lashes batted as she looked at Matt and then at me.

She sat up and reached over to grab my hand in hers. I could see as her eyes filled with tears. Seeing her cry made my heart squeeze because I didn't want her to cry anymore.

"Maddox, please don't cry." I told her.

She rolled her eyes, "They're tears of happiness."

"Oh well I still don't think you should cry." I told her.

She just smiled, "Okay, how you feel? Do you need a nurse or anything?"

I shook my head as I gave her hand a squeeze, "No I'm good."

"Well I'll uh just go call the boss and let him know you're fine." Matt said before handing Maddox her coffee.

I looked over at him and nodded as he chuckled before heading out. I looked back over at her and smiled.

"God how long was I out for?" I asked.

She wiped her tears and that's when I noticed her hands. They were wrapped up, I looked at them as my eyebrows furrowed.

"What the hell happened?" I asked.
