"It was fate, or maybe it was just me that felt that way."

Shawn.
I hadn't talked to Maddox in about a week. I wasn't avoiding her, okay maybe a little but I had a reason. Matt was right, I was slipping and letting myself get attached.
My boss gave me a specific task because he knew I was trusted to do my job. He knew I always put my job before anyone even myself. I had to focus, we hadn't gotten a word about Hernandez getting captured. So till then I had to keep my distance, feeling wise, and keep her safe.
I laid on the couch eating a burrito Matt had bought us while I watched the cameras. Matt was inside his room doing god knows what. He had been giving me the cold shoulder ever since he caught Maddox and I almost kiss.
It was getting late and all I had done was eat and watch the cameras. I mean Matt gets to pursue Hernandez if he gets close but he spends the rest of the time here. I was to get close to her and when time came I get her to safety.
If it was the opposite, if Matt was able to do my job I wouldn't be in this mess. I wouldn't have gotten close to her and have almost kissed her. I'd be in here all day watching these stupid screens doing nothing but wait for danger.
Matt's door opened and he walked out he was all dressed up. He walked over to the counter and grabbed his wallet and keys.
"Are we ever going to talk again?" I asked as Matt grabbed his coat.
He stopped and looked at me, "I never stopped talking to you. I just wanted to give you space to remember why we're here. Anyways I'm heading out, Megan stayed in town a little longer because her grandmother got sick. I'm taking her out for dinner to get her mind off of it. Can you handle things here?"
"Yeah but have fun, not too much though just incase something happens." I told him.
I then heard the door close and I sighed before I got up to clean up the place. Once things were cleaned up I started to workout without needing to go to the gym. So it consisted of push-ups, crunches, sit-ups and our weights we had here. By the time I was done I needed a shower, even with that little exercise I sweat pretty easily.
I had to take a very quick shower since Matt wasn't home to watch the cams. When I got out I put on some gym shorts before sitting back on the couch. I watched Maddox as she read a book on her couch. That's all she did today it might sound boring but she looked so interesting.
The mini facial expressions she'd make when something happened. I'd see her even smile big from time to time. I've never been a fan of reading but seeing how it made her it never made me want to read more. I wanted to know how she thought.
Every now and then she'd check her phone, maybe to look at the time. Or to see if someone texted her. Every time nothing was on her screen a small frown was on her face. Like she was disappointed she didn't get a text.
That's when I did the most irrational thing I could've done. I took out my phone and went to my messages.
To Maddox:
Hey sorry we haven't talked in a while, I want to make it up to you.I hesitated for a while before sending it, I looked up at the screen and seen her look over at her phone. She picked it up and smiled, the same smile she had when she read her book.
