"Things are never as they seem."

Maddox

I woke up in my apartment and yawned. I looked around my empty room and something seemed off. Like something wasn't right or out of place. I looked over to the other side of my bed, looking at how it was made up.

I couldn't shake this weird feeling I had, I got up and walked to my bathroom. I took a shower and stood underneath the hot water letting my thoughts run wild. I thought about him, how tall he is. His brown hair and eyes, the way he would smile and my heart would flip.

I then got out of the shower and walked out to my closet. I got dressed in my underclothes before getting ready for work. Once I was done I walked to my kitchen and again felt weird. I couldn't pin point what it was, it just made me feel a little on edge.

I grabbed my bag, badge, and jacket before walking out of my apartment. I locked the door behind me before heading down to the main floor. I walked out into the frigid morning and it made me glad I grabbed my jacket.

I hurried down the long street to the Café where Jess worked. I walked into the warm cozy café, the aroma of coffee filling the air. It made me want coffee even more than I did before leaving my apartment.

I went over to the barstool and sat down. I seen Jess look over and gave me a big warm smile.

"Hey Maddie, what would you like?" She asked.

I sighed, "Uh just a espresso please oh and a cinnamon roll please."

She looked at me weird before nodding slowly. She then turned back around and went to work on my order. Why was she looking at me like that? It added to my feeling of uneasiness. What was going on today?

She then returned and set down my food and drink in front of me. I was about to ask her why she was looking at me weird but she beat me to it.

"Hey are you okay?" She asked.

I nodded my head slowly, "Uh yeah why?"

"I don't know you just seem really off, I just want to make sure everything is okay." She told me but she said it as if she was walking on egg shells.

Did she know something I didn't? Was there a freaking light up sign following me? Or something written on my forehead.

"Everything is fine, I mean I've been having a weird morning." I explained to her.

She raised her eyebrow, "Describe weird."

"I don't know, it's like something is off. I can't help but feel like there's something missing." I told her.

She nodded slowly, "Well maybe you should call him."

I bit my lip, "You know he hates it when I bother him at work."

"It shouldn't be like that Maddie, you should be able to talk to him. I think you should just pick up your phone and call him." She told me.

She was right, it was stupid to fear him. To fear getting him in trouble, but it wasn't exactly the first time I've done this. Though I remembered how the last time turned out.

I grabbed my phone from my purse and looked for his contact. I hesitated a little before clicking on it and holding it up to my ear. I looked down at my hand and lightly touched the middle of my palm.

Shawn

People were talking, a lot. Then the sound of a loud engine, my ears popped causing me to flinch. A jolt in my seat causing me to move just a little. The sound of a baby crying louder than ever coming from behind me. Though with everything I heard and felt I didn't see anything.

All I seen was blackness, I was then pinched. I opened my eyes and looked to my right to see Matt. I furrowed my brows in confusion as to why he just did that. I rubbed my arm and he shook his head.

"We're here dumbass." He told me.

I looked out the window and indeed we were. Our flight just landed and I couldn't wait to stand up. My long legs not being able to have as much leg room hurt.

"Ugh that was too long of a flight." I told him as I stretched.

I then touched my side before looking at Matt.

"You slept through the whole thing sleeping beauty." He told me.

I rolled my eyes, and sat still for a second. Something was off, different, I didn't like feeling this way. I looked around and it caused Matt to give me a questioning look.

"You alright?" He asked me.

I nodded, "Yeah just a little anxious about this case I guess."

"Dude we've done a lot of cases in our time. We'll be fine." He told me.

I nodded, "Yeah you're right, it's a stupid plan but surely it will go by quick."

"Yeah plus she's kind of cute." He said.

I rolled my eyes, "Matt you have a girlfriend."

"And I wasn't talking about for me." He stated.

I shook my head before looking down in my lap. I looked at the files in my lap that were to help me understand the case better. My phone then rang and I answered it since we just landed and we're aloud to have our phones out.

"Hello?" I answered.

"Did you land?" I heard through the other end.

I sighed and looked out the window, "Yup."

"And you looked over the files?" My boss asked.

I looked down back on my lap, "Yes."

"Okay be safe you two." He told me.

"Got it boss." I told him.

After that I hung up the phone and collected all the papers. Matt got up and moved so that I would be able to get out. I let out a big sigh as I walked down the aisle of the plane.

Maddox Larson. What a beautiful name, but for some reason it's like I already knew her. Maybe it was all just in my head....

Just a dream

Authors Note//
It was all only just a dream.
Maddox and Shawn never met, Maddox called her ex. That's why she was unsure to call because at the time they were still together.
Shawn only dreamt of her because before he fell asleep on the flight he was reading her file.
Yes what a cruel way to end this book but boy do I love how it ended.
But yet this is the end of Maddox and Shawn's story no sequel or anything.
I loved writing this book so much you have no idea.
