"All my life has been nothing but bad."

•••

Maddox.

My head hurt, I could feel the throbbing get worse and worse. It felt like my head was being squeezed, it hurt so much. I tried to move my hands to head but I felt a sticky restraint.

That's when I opened my eyes but only seen darkness. There was not even a peek of light, something was covering my eyes. Though I couldn't take it off for my hands were behind me and duct taped together.

My heart started to quicken from fear, the last thing I remembered was getting out of my bath. I got dressed and laid on my bed waiting for Jess to show up. Then I felt so tired and next thing I know I'm here.

I attempted to sit up but didn't even get anywhere when I hit something. My heart was beating fast, my head pounding. I had to calm down because the more I panicked the more I could only hear the blood surging in my ear.

I took a deep breath and let it out trying to remember what Shawn taught me. To be calm and collected, don't panic of it will just make things hard. I took a few deep breaths before the sound of blood in my ear went still.

The pounding in my head lessened and my heart calmed down. I then focused on my hearing to hear anything that would help. I heard what sounded like cars, I could hear the engines roar and then a few honks. The way some would burn rubber against the road.

I then realized by the small size of where I was and the sounds around me. I was in the trunk of a car, I could feel my heartbeat quicken once again. I had a huge fear of being in small enclosed places. I was claustrophobic so knowing I was somewhere small made me feel anxious.

The worst part is I couldn't see, if I did then I might find a way of getting out. Or at least try but I couldn't, I then heard the city noise go quiet. Then not too long the car I was in came to a stop.

I heard a door open before shutting, I then felt the trunk open. I pretended I was still asleep, I was then picked up. Whoever this was must've been male, the way his broad chest felt.

I was then set on the hard floor I groaned pretending I just woke up. Whatever was covering my eyes came off, I opened my eyes and was blinded by a harsh light. I had to take long blinks in order to adjust to the light and look at my surroundings.

I couldn't even tell where I was, it looked like a building. But one under construction but hasn't been worked on in months. You could tell by the amount of trash, leaves, and dirt on the floors.

I heard rustling near by and looked in the direction. Though whoever was standing there was hidden by the harsh light. I couldn't cover my eyes because I was still tied up.

"Who are you? Where the hell am I?" I asked.

I tried once again to get my hands free but the duct tape wouldn't let me. There was too many layers and the tape would just burn my hands more.

"I really didn't want to do this to you, but I had no other choice." They said.

They then walked out so I could see them.

Shawn.

I walked into her apartment and didn't see much out of place. But it was dark and cold and just different. It wasn't the same from when I left it, it lost all its home feel.

Maybe it hadn't, maybe it was just knowing she wasn't here that made it feel different. Her smile and positive personality wasn't turning the corner to greet me. Or her contagious laugh wasn't filing the room it was silent.

Everything was off, nothing felt right because it wasn't. I left when I knew I should've stayed, against everything I thought was the right thing to do. I should've done what I knew was right and stayed.

"Anything?" Matt asked.

I was brought out of my thoughts and looked over at Matt. I studied the way it looked, it looked normal and clean. The only thing that threw us off was the fact that the door was broken into.

None of this made sense, did she leave somewhere and someone broke in while she was gone? I took my phone out of my pocket and called her, it started to ring and we listened. We then heard a phone ringing in her apartment. Fuck.

We followed the music till we found it in her room. It was on her bedside table, she wouldn't have left her phone if she were to go out. Just then a few cops walked in and two detectives.

Matt and I walked over towards them, "Detective Abbot and France. You are?"

"CIA agents Mendes and Camick." I told them.

"CIA agents? What kind of investigation are we dealing with here?" One of them asked.

We then informed them of all the things that lead to this moment. From our case to Maddox and why this was important. It wasn't just some simple abduction it was more than that.

"Well we'll notify the boss here and see what we can do. If we were you two notify your sector and see if you can get more guys out here. Find out who we're dealing with so we don't get our men killed." They told us.

The other officers had put up the caution tape so no one would come in and so we wouldn't have a crowd. I didn't like this, I never wanted to see her apartment like this.

"Shawn?" I heard Jess call from outside the apartment.

I walked out and seen her behind the tape. She looked worried, the same way she did when I first got here.

"Hey sorry I didn't talk to you when I got here I just-"

"Needed to make sure for yourself? Yeah I understand, but what I'm not understanding is what the hell is going on. Like why my best friend is missing and why there's all this craziness." She asked.

I nodded, "It's going to sound crazy Jess."

"I don't care what I care about right now is finding out where my best friend is." She told me.

I nodded and then began telling her everything. This was my second time today and with each minute wasted telling it over and over again is a minute of finding Maddox wasted.

I needed to find her.
