Chapter Twenty Three - Sorting Things Out
Amber's Pov
"Oops, watch where you're going, bitch," I laugh as Jake mimics Avery's voice in a high pitched tone.
"Hey, guys," Dani joins us. "What's up?"
"Nothing," Jake says.
She raises her brow suspiciously.
"Ugh. There is nothing going on between the both of us, if that's what you are thinking," I say defensively.
"Ooh," Mia pipes in.
"What's cooking?" Nick grins.
"Great, the whole gang's here," Dani grins.
After lots of bickering, eating and laughing, the bell finally rang.
"Darn," Mia scowls.
"Got to go now," I get up. "See you, guys."
I hear a chorus of "see you"s and "later"s as I exit the cafeteria.
Suddenly, someone bumps into me, hard. I stumble but manage to stay on my feet.
"Sorry, I wasn't looking where I was going," A feminine familar voice says.
I look up to see Avery.
"Um, it's fine," I say after I recover from my shock.
She then walks away, but not before give me a small smile.
I stay rooted to the same spot, not moving, not believing what just happened.
"Um, Amber?" I hear a voice say.
"Huh?" I turn. "Oh, Jake."
"What's wrong with you, standing there like a robot?" He chuckles.
"I- Something weird just happened," I frown. "Avery bumped into me and she apologised and smiled at me as she walked away!"
"What, really?" He looked surprised, but not as surprised as I thought he'd be.
"Yeah," I nod. "Looks like there is some traces of the real Avery."
Jake smiles brightly, brighter than ever. "Yeah."
"Oh well," I smile. "I'm heading to class now. Bye."
"Bye, see you."
Dani's Pov
"See you lovebirds later," I say as I turn on my heels.
Mia rolls her eyes as Nick chuckles.
"See you, bye."
As I walk towards my next class, I notice something on my right, so I turn. My eyes widen at the sight.
Melissa and Josh. They were holding hands, looking at each other with a lovesick face and smiling like there was no tomorrow.
Looks like there's a new couple.
I ignore them and walk towards my next class, my mind filling with thoughts.
They're together now, huh? But the last time I checked, Melissa was really upset and heartbroken that Josh rejected her. So how could Josh just take her back like that? Either she's naive or Josh must've done something to earn back her trust and love.
Me, being deep in thought, bump into someone.
"Sorry," I mumble.
"It's fine," Ray smirks. "You're really clumsy, after all."
