It whisked my bat away, an evil, gleeful grin spreading through it's face.

Sweat quickly poured out of my face.  "Get back." I ordered Kit Kat and Adrian, viewing what options we had now.  That thing, or the window behind us? Why were making decisions real hard now?

Suddenly 3 gunshots were fired, sure, there were a lot of gunshots, especially coming from downstairs, since our neighbors finally figured out that whatever was attacking them wasn't human at all.  But this sounded close to us, like it was only fired meters away.  I mean, you could tell your ears weren't fooling around with you.  Not in a life and death situation.

And surprisingly, it fell to the ground, blood oozing out of it's open wound, or should I say wounds, the red crimson liquid oozed into the spotless, cold floor.  Making a puddle enough for a kiddie swimming pool.  Talk about disgusting.

I stopped breathing.  Who shot that?

"Mom!" Kit Kat said, pushing through both of us, and meeting Lilith up with a hug.  Oh, that's not a shocker if she was the one who shot that without sweat, I mean both of her parents were policemen.

I couldn't help but feel a pang of longing quickly shoot through my chest as I watched daughter and mother lock in a tight embrace.  How long has it been since I ran into my mom's arms like that anyway? Lilith hugged her back, kissing Kit Kat's head, relief on her face.

Lilith was a pretty brunette, just like her daughter, and it created an obvious resemblance between mother and daughter.  Lilith had mysterious--and well, serious gray eyes, that when you looked at them, it felt more like you were trying to save yourself from drowning in a wide ocean because Lilith's eyes never revealed much of herself, only a massive sea full of intelligence.  Luckily for me though, Kit Kat didn't take over those eyes, because if she did, I'd feel totally dumb in her presence.  No, she had her dad's eyes, wide and blue.

Lilith rubbed Kit Kat's back.   "Are you all okay?" She then looked at both of us.  "Adrian, why is your nose bleeding?" She asked.

"It's nothing." Adrian said, brushing Lilith off.  I guess, based on what he yelled awhile ago, Adrian never felt like he belonged in Kit Kat's family.  But why? They were such good people, with the best intentions at heart, they were the closest family friends we even ever had before Kit Kat and I met.

"Where's dad?" Kit Kat asked, letting go of Lilith.

"He's at the garage, starting the car now." She replied, sounding worried.  And I couldn't blame her, she now had three kids to take into responsibility, and more importantly, to keep alive.

My eyes grew wide in horror as I realized what was gonna happen next.  There was another of those things that came in here, and it was close to the door, in fact close to Kit Kat that I was so sure that one pull from it and Kit Kat's life would end.

That awful smell filled the air, but this time, it smelled like the boy's comfort room back in school, it reminded me of urine and the odor that meant somebody didn't flush the toilet again.

Why hadn't I seen that earlier? I asked myself, why did I even believe that we would be safe enough to head to the garage and ride their car out of here?

Lilith must've seen the look in my face because she suddenly pushed Kit Kat away.  But it was too late, that thing grabbed Lilith by the shoulder, and being the strong monster that it was, it pulled Lilith into it's mouth and it bit her.

Everything happened so fast, I'll just write down what I could still remember.

Blood quickly came out of Lilith's shoulder, flowing freely to her arm.  She screamed in pain as her arms flailed around.  I wanted to help her, I wanted to run to Lilith's aid, but I was already holding Kit Kat back, and I'll have to admit that for a girl, she was strong enough to somehow drag my feet towards her mother.
