I haven't done a Sam one-shot in awhile, I think he's due for some cute fluff. May get steamy towards the end.

"Mama?" You hear your three year old son as you put the ingredients together for his birthday cake. "Hey, sweetie," you sweetly respond, "wanna help me make the cake?" He happily nods in agreement as you pick him up and let him mix the batter.
"It's chocolate, buddy, your favorite," you say to him. Once the cake batch was properly mixed you pour it and placed it the oven to bake.

"Mama?" You hear your son call for you once more, "Is daddy coming home today?" You took a moment to think before answering.

Your husband Sam Wilson went off on a mission three weeks ago; he didn't want to, but he didn't exactly have much of a choice. He promised he would make it back in time for his son's birthday. If truth be told you didn't exactly hold your breath on that. You knew Sam would try his best to not miss this special day, but the missions he went on didn't always take as long as intended; sometimes they took longer: three days could be a whole weeks and three weeks could be almost two months. During this current mission, you'd say quick prayers before bed, hopping Sam would make it home on time. He was suppose to come back yesterday; right now you could only hope he would make it back today for his son's sake.

"I'm sure daddy will do his best to get here just for you, buddy," you answer little Stevie's question. "Why is he gone so long? I want daddy back," he pouts in a typical childish manner. You kneel done so you could hug your son, "I want daddy back too," you mutter, "don't worry, hun," you try to console, "he'll be back before you know it. After all, daddy is a hero." "Really?" Stevie's face brightens up. "That's right," you nod, "he's off saving the world. And he is the bravest man I know." That seem to raise Stevie's spirits as he started running around the house pretending to be Falcon.

The oven went ding and you took the cake out of the oven. You were preoccupied with the frosting so you didn't hear the sound of the front door open. "Daddy!" You hear your son's voice. You head for the door, and sure enough you saw Stevie run up to your husband, who pulled your son into a bear hug. "Hey, little man," Sam said with joy. "You came home, daddy," Stevie said with excitement. "Well I couldn't miss your special day," Sam replies, then hands Stevie his birthday present, "Happy birthday, Stevie." Stevie eagerly took the present and ran off to open it.
You then approached Sam to give him a warm kiss, "I knew you would make it back on time," you tell him. "Barely," Sam admits, "Right when we completed the mission, Cap practically ordered I leave early so I didn't miss Stevie's birthday." "Leave it to ole Cap," you chuckle, "I missed you," you peck his lips again.

"Do you miss working out on the field?" Sam asks. "Sometimes," you admit, "but not as much as I would've missed Steven. I know it sounds old fashioned, but I really wanted to be a stay at home mom and not miss Stevie growing up." "It's not that old fashioned, you were the one who made that choice," Sam assures, "I would've supported you either way." You smile at that.

You and Sam spent the rest of the day playing with Stevie, watching him open his presents and of course blowing out the birthday candles and cutting up the cake. After making sure Stevie took his bath, you and Sam sat down with him to watch a Disney movie marathon. Stevie though only manage to make it through the first movie; he fell asleep half way past the second. Sam put him to bed while you went to take a quick shower and get ready for bed.

You settled in bed by the time Sam came into the bedroom. "It sure is good to be back," Sam said as he got dressed for bed. "You missed us?" You raise an eyebrow. "Course I missed you, and Stevie too," Sam replies. "Today was nice," you say, scooting over so Sam could climb into bed, "this is the reason I chose to stay at home; these moments with Stevie are the kind of moments I don't want to miss."
Sam looked sullen for a minute after that statement, almost as if he was feeling guilty, "hey, what's wrong?" You ask. "I was just thinking about how close I was to missing my own son's birthday," Sam answers somewhat sullen. "Hey, it wasn't your fault, you were doing your job," you assure, "you're off being the hero your son knows you to be." "If anyone's the real hero it's you," Sam tells you, making you raise an eyebrow "I know I'm gone a lot and I know that leaves you here raising Stevie alone half the time. You're the glue that keeps this family together when I'm not here." You blushed a little at that compliment. "I've been thinking maybe I should take some time off so I can spend more time with my family." You were surprised at that statement, but it was a pleasant one. "I think that would be great, Sammy," you reply, "you know, since you're planning on taking time off, maybe we can use this time to..." You caress his arm in a slight seductive manner, "extend the family tree." Sam chuckles, "you're serious?" Sam asks to make sure. "Why not?" You ask, "it's been exactly three years since we had Stevie. I don't see the harm in having another."
"Well I guess it would be nice for Stevie to have a brother or sister to play with," Sam points out with a smirk. "So is that a yes?" You ask. Sam pulls you in for a passionate kiss as the answer to your question. You kiss him back and the two of you began making out. The kissing became more urgent as you and Sam proceeded to remove each others clothes.

Before things could progress any further your heard a small voice, "Daddy?" The two of you stopped what you were doing and turn around to see your son standing by the bedroom door, stuffed Captain America bear in his hand. Luckily you and Sam were under the sheets and hadn't removed all your clothes just yet. "Hey, sweetie, what's wrong?" "I had a bad dream," was Stevie's timid response. "I'll tuck you in," you say. "I want daddy," Stevie said back. "Okay, buddy, go back to bed, daddy will tuck you in," Sam said. He groaned a little once Stevie left the room. "Don't worry, Sammy," you assure your husband, "I'm not going anywhere tonight. We can pick up right where left off."
Sam smiled and stole a quick kiss before heading for Stevie's bedroom.
