"Where is (y/n)?" Tony scowls as everyone had made it to the conference room for the meeting, "She hasn't returned my calls." "Calm down, Tony she's probably running late," Steve consoles, "This meeting was a bit short notice." "That's a bit of understatement, given that the bulk of us were on the other side of town doing Christmas charity stuff," Natasha quips. "Yeah, yeah, not important," Tony brushes off, "Where the hell is (y/n)?"
"I'm here," you say in between pants, entering the room. "You're late," Tony crosses his arms, "Relax, Stark, it's only by five minutes," you gripe, "at least I actually managed to make it, given that I had to hand deliver those presents I was carrying to friends around the city." "Well save that none sense on your own time," Tony retorts, "We have work that needs doing, so sit down."
You were slightly taken aback by Tony's less then Christmas demeanor, but did as you were told and took a seat.
"Right, now that everyone is here we can finally begin." Over the next couple hours, Tony went over previous missions, stuff that gone as planned, others that needed improvement; it was nothing short of boring.
"I have these files you all need to fill out," Tony informs as he hands them to the team, "And I expect them to be filled out by tomorrow." "Tomorrow?!" The team starts griping.
"Ah come on, Tony, tomorrow's Christmas," Steve intervenes, "I'm sure you can spare us a day or two off from filling out paperwork.""Hey," you read the file you were handed, "Why are some of us going out on a mission tomorrow? " The others check the files they were given for conformation, "Yeah, Tony, what the hell?" Pietro agrees. "Hey, you wanna stay here for free, you complete these missions at any given time," Tony states with a stern tone.
"I don't mind doing this sort of thing any other day," Sam interjects, "but come on, man, didn't you forget we do happen to have other plans this time of year like everybody else? Spending time with family, opening presents under the tree." "Oh right, of course," Tony answers sarcastically, "It's Christmas. Which means we should put everything aside for one lousy work day and shit. And of course we have to assume that organizations like HYDRA will be doing the exact same thing. It's not like they're put any evil-doing off for that one whole day out any of the other 365 days in the year."You and the rest of the team stare at Tony rather weirdly. "Tony, there hasn't been any HYDRA activity for the last couple months," you break the silence, "I'm sure one more day won't hurt-" "You're going on that mission whether you like it or not, (y/n)," Tony interrupts rather rudely, "Any grand illusions you had about doing things your way the moment you joined this team better leave your head. The people we fight out there are not taking any holidays and neither are we; especially for a holiday as worthless as Christmas."
To say the team was shocked that Tony would describe Christmas in such a way would be an understatement. Despite still being miffed that I had to work on Christmas, I couldn't help but wonder why Tony seemed to hate this holiday so much.
"If I didn't know better, I'd say Tony really hates Christmas," you say once Tony left the conference room. "Really, that little rant of his didn't confirm that?" Clint sarcastically questions. "I didn't think Tony was the kind of guy to be such a scrooge though," Steve quips. "A scrooge?" Thor frowns, "I don't understand." "A scrooge is a person who doesn't like Christmas," you explain, "The term comes from the name of a character from a beloved Christmas classic by Charles Dickens."
"Anyway," Steve continues, "I wouldn't exactly consider Tony the family or spiritual type, but I'd always thought he'd at least use Christmas as an excuse to throw a party, down shots, drink heavily spiked eggnog, or maybe exchange dirty gifts or something like." "And he is fairly generous when it comes to philanthropy," Natasha agrees, "And Christmas is the one time where giving is sorta a big deal."
