This is probably a common and possibly overused trope where a TV series makes a detective film noir parody in some form or fashion like they did in Spongebob, The Fairly Odd Parents, and Phineas and Ferb (And I'm pretty sure at least one Spider-man series has done it too). But hey, it's a fun trope to work with, and I decided Peter would be the most suitable candidate for trying it out.
So the reader in this one-shot goes missing, apparently, and Peter decides to play detective, narrating in a black and white scene like in a film noir.
There's plenty of jazz music to listen to as you get into Peter's narration (which will be in italics)."The scene was set," Peter narrates as he approaches the door to an empty isolated room in the Avengers facility, dressed up in a grey fedora and trench coat. "It all came down to this." he reaches for the handle of the door, "The perp who abducted (y/n) prior to the school dance was right behind this door. The moment I enter inside, the case will be solved and I will be able to find her."
"The jig is up!" Peter exclaims as he slams open the door, facing the perpetrator who was lurking in the shadows, "I've caught you red-handed. You kidnapped (y/n) this whole time!"
----------20 hours earlier----------
It was just another day in high school in Queens. Well sort of. It was time for the annual spring dance, and the kids were all hyped up about it, but none was more excited than Peter Parker. Reason being was because this was the day he was planning on asking you to the dance.
"Today's the day, Ned," the youth confides to his best friend as they sit together at one of the cafeteria tables, "I'm definitely going to ask (y/n) out." "okay, what exactly makes today any different from the rest of the year you told me you were going to ask (y/n) out?" Ned frowns confused. "Because tomorrow is the spring dance," Peter replies like it's obvious, "And I'm going to ask her if she wants to be my date to the dance."
Right on cue you enter cafeteria with your circle of friends. For Peter, this was a sight to behold as he stares hopelessly in love as you take a seat with your peers, "She's beautiful," he dreamily utters, "I have a feeling today is my lucky day." "Don't say that too loud, or you might jinx it," Ned nudges, nodding toward a group of guys that began to sit next to you and your friends, bringing Peter back from his semi-daydream. At this point, he knew the chances of you saying yes to going to the dance with him were minimal, especially with the likes of Flash Thompson, who was sitting on your left, fixing to place an arm around your shoulder.
"look, I know I'm your friend and all, but I gotta be honest with you buddy, you got some stiff competition there," Ned adds.Taking a deep breath, Peter stands up, "You know what, I'm gonna go over there and ask her to the dance, get it over with. I mean, the worst she can do is say no, right?" "Best of luck to you," Ned pats Peter on the shoulder, "Go get em."
You were talking to your friends, when you take notice of a certain Peter Parker sauntering his way to your table, "Hey, Peter," you casually greet, which also brought the attention of your group towards him. "He, (y/n), guys," he nervously greets back. "What are you doing here, Parker?" Flash slightly sneers, "You know this is the cool kids table, right?" some of the others seemed to agree with him, "Now hold on, guys, I'm sure Peter has something to offer, right?" you assure, "Let's just here what he has to say."
Peter nervously swallows before getting to the big questions, "So (y/n), the...the spring dance is tomorrow, you wouldn't happen to have a date already, would you?" "Well, no, not really," you admit, "I've been kinda busy studying for those last exams. Why?" "Uh..." Peter blushes slightly before summoning his courage, "I, uh, I was wondering if...if you want to go with me to the spring dance?"
Peter seemed to flinch slightly, as if anticipating a no. You thought about it; Peter was a nice kid, nicer then most of the guys you've been with in the past. You decided it was worth a try, "Sure," you nod, "I'd love to go to the dance with you, Peter." "You will?" Peter seemed surprised; the shock amongst your friends was mutual. "Yeah," you confirm once more, "You can come pick me up at my house tomorrow around 7:30, how does that sound?" "Uh, okay," Peter shyly answers, "Sounds good to me. See you then."
