Give me a glimpse of Paradise

There I saw it, in my repose:

A comforting presence drawing close.

With an eye gleaming in the dark of night,

Her beauty shone and filled my sight.

The vision filled me with delight:

A lovely wraith exceedingly bright.

Beckoning with hands of marble fairness,

She made me lose all awareness.

My very chambers changed its hue

From fierce midnight black to azure blue.

But even though these few changes were wrought,

T'was the fair maid that my eyes sought.

For even in the blaze of colors,

The sight of her pulled me close with force.

There never was an angel more lovely

Than that which the night made me see.

Her bright eyes that were crystal clear

Had given me no reason to fear.

Likewise, her head of cascading ringlets...

Ah! It reminds one of sunsets.

But all too soon, the dream ended;

Calm blue burst into scarlet red

As the sun rose; I looked round with dread.

The angel was gone from my bed!

Recalling that sublimity

That had once revealed itself to me,

I beg: sing me to sleep with lullabies.

Give me a glimpse of Paradise.
