Jules
He throws his head back and laughs making me laugh. He smacks his palm to his forehead. He looks over to see who yelled his name.
"Of course this would happen at this very moment," he says. "WHAT!" he yells back making me jump. He rubs my arms as if to say a silent sorry.
"Why are ya'll swimming this early?" The voice yells. I look over to see who it is and it's Arnie.
"Never you mind. What you want Arnie?" he asks sounding annoyed.
"It's Goliath, he broke the damn gate again."
"Shit! I will be right there," he says. "I'm sorry Jules we need to head back."
"No, it's okay Gordo. Go take care of what you need to," I say.
We make our way out of the water and I begin to shiver. I throw on my clothing as fast as I can. He is putting on this clothing too. He picks up Trinity and folds up the stroller. He takes them both in his arms and begins to walk. I grab the stroller from him and we walk through the thickets together. He is walking really fast that he jostles Trinity awake it startles her and she begins to cry.
"I'm sorry my love," he says patting her back trying to soothe her.
We make it to his truck and he opens the back seat and places her in her car seat. He opens the passenger door for me to climb in. He gets in and drives down the dirt road I can tell that he is a bit agitated. I touch his forearm and he looks down at my hand and touches it with his own hand and smiles.
"Looks like we finally got the lift right? I say. "Hey, are you ok?"
"Yeah, I'm sorry. I am just stressed about Goliath and the damn gate. I have a lot of things that I need to do today. I didn't need a broken gate to add to the fun."
"What else do you need to do?"
"I got to get this little one fed, bathed and dressed. I still have to do the rodeo walk through and a practice run."
"Don't worry about Trinity; I can take her to get ready."
"Wow, really? I don't want to impose." he says.
"No, really. She knows me so she will be okay."
"Okay, thanks a lot."
We finally get to the ranch and he is ready to get what he needs to get done, done. He shuts off the truck and he smiles at me.
"Where are her clothes?"
"There is that black diaper bag," he says. "Hey you know what take my truck." He hands me the keys. I get out of the truck to go to the driver's side. "Thanks again." He gets closer to me and touches my jaw and chin with his thumb. It makes me weak in the knees. "See you both in a little while."
"Ready Trinity? Let's go," I say.
"Go," she repeats.
I drive down the long driveway past the main house. My dad comes out of the door he whistles at me and I stop the truck. I roll down the window, he comes over to me.
"Hi daddy."
"Hi mija, you taking Joaquin's truck? Guess everything is all good again."
"Yeah it is good. And I'm taking the baby to get ready; he has a lot on his plate today.
"He sure does. He is doing a good job with her though. Hey why is your hair wet?"
"We jumped in the river for old times sake." I laugh.
