Hoseok, Momo, Sung Kyung and I all decided to hit up Firepit for a late night dinner to wish each other luck before our mid terms this week. It's March and this is going to be hell week for all of us as we try not to fail our exams. I'm already stressing about Isom and the crappy study guide my teacher gave me. I'm not too worried about my Japanese class I enrolled in since I picked it up relatively easily. I still have to brush up on a few more things though. I don't even want to think about my other classes and don't have to since we arrive at Firepit.
We walk over to the front desk to put our names down for a seat and I instantly remember the thirty something year old man from the first time I came with Hoseok. His eyes seem to light up as he picks me out from the rest of my friends. "I haven't seen you around here for a while." He flirts and I give him a bored look.
"Can we get a table for four?" I ask and he frowns, but takes out some menus. "I'll get someone to seat you all." Today's one of their slow nights so we don't have to wait. When we get situated Momo starts naming all the meat she's going to eat starting with grilled bulgogi and beef brisket. My mouth waters and I have to swallow before it dribbles all over the table. I really need this night out to clear my head.
"What dishes do you want to order?" I ask Sung Kyung and she points to the Kimchi pancakes.
"That looks good. I think I'll have the whole menu." I state and she chuckles.
"Wow, Jin way to be a pig."
I set the menu down on the table and with all seriousness push my nose up and say, "Oink. oink." Sung kyung burst out into laughter at my joke and I relax in my seat. I glance at Hoseok and Momo. Their having one of those couple moments where they just stare into each others eyes, captivated while somehow having a telepathic conversation and giggling quietly. I swear they are couple goals, but it's so sickening at the same time.
I hate straight couples.
I blink.
They're tolerable though.
Our waiter comes over and we go around the table ordering our drinks and picking our first course of meat. I order a Taro bubble tea, Sung Kyung settles for a green tea and Hoseok and Momo both order Sprites. "That guy at the front was flirting with you hard," Sung Kyung says out of the blue and I tense.
"Yeah, he was." I glance over at her and she's running her fingers through her brown hair. "I wonder if that's even allowed."
"I doubt it." Hoseok answers, "But, this is the second time right? He was the one from the grand opening." I nod my head.
"Yup," I pop the P and Hoseok grins from ear to ear.
"Could you imagine Jin with a guy?"My mouth drops open and I take my menu and smack Hoseok on top of his head. "Ow." He rubs his head, "I was just throwing it out there."
I scowl, "Please, I would nev-"
"I think it would be cute," Momo says right when our waiter comes back with our drinks. I busy myself with my straw, opening it and putting it into my bubble tea. Our waiter leaves and sung Kyung picks up the conversation.
"I can't see him with that guy," She points to the front entrance and I nod my head in agreement.
Hell to the no.
"...But, Namjoon. Hell to the yes."
"Excuse me?" I choke out and Sung Kyung takes a sip of her green tea.
"You guys would be so hot together," She shivers, "If you two get together let me plan your wedding." My face must be all types of red as my body sweats. "Relax, Jin. It's just a joke. We all know you're straight...even though you don't date around...and you sent that text to my phone about liking dick a while back." She jokes and I scowl.
"That was Namjoon."
"Exactly!" She points her chopsticks at me. "Ship it."
"Sung Kyung!" I cover my face with my hands and groan.
"Not saying you are but, if you were gay. I give you permission to crush on me." Hoseok plays, earning a glare from his girlfriend. "What? I'm just kidding." He pecks Momo on the lips and she smiles again everything already forgiven and forgotten.
As they all switch the conversation to something else, my brain stays stuck in a traffic jam. They were so passive about it. It didn't even phase them for one second...
I look around the table and my heart thumps hard in my chest. Everyone is casually throwing playful banter back and forth, passing the time until our assorted meats get here. I bite down on my lip to suppress a smile trying to form on my face. It's times like this that make me love my friends more...even if I don't plan on coming out.

The store has been quiet for the last 30 minutes except the soft pop music playing over head. I decided to take the spare time to study for my exam I have in the morning. This is my final shot to get into Yonsei and if I'm being completely honest...I don't feel smart enough. I've never been a straight A student or the fastest at comprehending things. Looking down at the calculus equations in front of me have me sweating and my eyes blurring.
This always happens when I don't understand something. My eyes water and my head spins. It takes forever to give myself a pep talk and focus again, but by that time the results are practically decided. Failure. A tear falls onto my work book and I wipe it away. I blink to clear my vision, but am shocked when a hand lifts my chin up. It's Jungkook and he looks all types of worried. "What's wrong?"
I turn my head away, embarrassed that he caught me getting choked up over a math problem of all things. He purses his lips and rotates my work book to face him. Leaning over the counter he looks at the problem I was working on. "This is some hard material."
"Too hard." I mumble and he takes my pencil from me and erases my work.
"No, it just takes a little more effort." He starts writing away and soon enough he smiles up at me while pointing at the final answer. "I can help you if you want."
"Now, I feel slower." I mumble and he frowns. He walks around the counter and turns me to face him.
"Don't ever say that again. You will start to believe it. Plus, I just learned this earlier this year." He points at his head. "I'll let you borrow my brain if you promise to give it back."
"I promise." I decide to play along and place both my hands around his head and make a mechanical noise like I'm unscrewing his head. Then, I pretend to pick out his brain and put it in my head. "Wow."
"Thanks, Kookie." Jungkook pauses for a second and I notice the slight tint to his cheeks.
"No problem." He moves my work book closer to the edge of the table. "Now, let me explain the steps to you before the next customer comes."
"You're a life saver."
